🦁 Lion Cub Gender Reveal! 🦁

Our keeper and veterinary teams recently carried out the lion cubs' first health checks, ensuring they spent as little time away from mum as possible.

The cubs were weighed, examined, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped and sexed, and we're pleased to say all three are healthy and thriving!

So, are the lion cubs male, female, or a mixture of both? The answer you've all been waiting for is finally here... watch the video for the reveal! 🩷🩵

The Big Cat Habitat has now fully reopened to the public. While visitors may be lucky enough to see the cubs during their visit, sightings cannot be guaranteed.

Happy International Zookeeper Day & World Animal Day! 🦧🐘🐧

Today we're celebrating our incredible zookeeper team, who care for our animals 365 days a year. Contrary to popular belief, being a zookeeper isn't about cuddling cute animals all day!

It's early starts, muddy boots, working in all weathers, endless wheelbarrows of poo, preparing diets, creating enrichment, and providing the very best care for our animals.

From protecting endangered species here at the zoo to supporting vital conservation efforts out in the wild, our team works tirelessly to safeguard the future of wildlife.

Thank you to the entire team for your hard work, passion, and dedication 💚

Khari meets his cubs 🦁

At nearly 10 weeks old, Hira's cubs are growing fast and becoming more confident, so the keeper team recently took the next exciting step and introduced them to their dad, Khari.

The process was gradual and carefully managed, starting with introductions through the fencing, allowing Khari and the cubs to become familiar with one another before progressing any further. With Khari continuing to show positive behaviour, the keepers decided it was time for the next stage of introductions under the watchful eye of mum, Hira.

While understandably protective of her youngsters, Hira was comfortable letting the cubs and Khari get to know one another, with plenty of curiosity shown from both sides. As this was Khari's first experience around cubs, he took a cautious approach, with Hira occasionally stepping in when she felt he had got a little too close for her liking!

The keeper team are delighted with how introductions have progressed so far and will continue to monitor the pride closely as this exciting new chapter develops 💚
