Breakfast with Zaiya 🐘🍼

At 9 months old, Zaiya is growing bigger and stronger every day. Even though she has started to eat small amounts of solid food, she still relies on specialised milk as her primary source of nutrition, which is essential for her development.

RARE twins born! 🥰

At just over a month old, these critically endangered cotton-top tamarin twins are slowly growing in confidence as they start to explore independently but nothing beats hitching a ride on mum Rosa or dad Rico.

With their species under severe threat from habitat loss and the illegal pet trade, every successful birth plays a vital role in securing their future.

From curious observer to muddy explorer 🐘🤎

By watching the other females in the herd splashing and rolling in the mud wallow, Zaiya is learning that this isn’t just playtime, it’s an important part of elephant life.

A good mud bath keeps her cool in warm weather, protects her skin from the sun and bugs, gently exfoliates her skin and creates lovely social bonding moments too.

Happy 11th birthday to Khari! 🦁

Although it took a little time for Khari to settle into his role as the pride’s dominant male, his bond with Hira and Narla has continued to grow, with keepers delighted by the positive interactions seen across the group.

From relaxing side by side together, to grooming and friendly head rubs, it’s great to see the pride getting on so well.

Anyone for a mud bath? 🐘🛁

Mud wallowing is just one way our elephants keep cool during warmer days. They use their trunks to toss mud over their bodies, helping them beat the heat while protecting their skin from sunburn and pesky bugs.
