In a change to our scheduled programme, we present a tribute to JACQUI VEAZEY who died at Easter. Our concert will now feature an Evening of GILBERT AND SULLIVAN with the orchestra, chorus and soloists of Musica Lirica Opera. It will take place on Sunday 12 July at 7:30pm at Lytham Methodist Church, 6 Park Street Lytham FY8 5LU.

It is with great sadness that we heard of the death of Jacqui Veazey this morning. The Queen is dead, ……..what now? This one will never be replaced. She had just reached an important birthday on the Ides of March. After a certain age, they are all big birthdays, Jacqui. She was a consummate performer, both on and off the stage. One of the final performances with us was on the Blackpool Grand Theatre Stage in The Merry Widow. Hers was merely a speaking part. However, she dominated the stage from the moment she walked on to it. I have analysed the video several times and I am always astounded at the brilliance of her nuanced delivery. A supporter, not only of ours, but of professional and amateur theatre alike. In particular, she loved children and children’s performances. She was a great girl, was Big Jack! ❤️X###

THANK YOU EVERYONE, for your kind words and support. I was sentenced to 5 days in the Vic on oxygen. Very dramatic for a post nasal drip/runny nose🤣. Actually it was bronchitis causing low oxygen levels. When I was paroled the levels were just as bad as when I was sent down. 🤔 Feeling a lot better now. I daren’t start working again just yet, as I have no idea how long it will take before I crash and burn. I’m going to do a few small jobs today to see how I get on before taking any big steps. Not unconnected, I tried to sing a bit of Andrea Chenier yesterday. Horrible! I sound like a corncrake! Sending oodles of love and best wishes to everyone😍😘 When asked what I wanted them to call me in the Vic we settled on “Oy!”🤒

Due to my enforced inactivity I am reading a biography of my vocal great-grandfather, the Neapolitan, Fernando de Lucia. He taught Rodolfo Mele (from his name, another southern Italian) who taught Bruce Boyce, who taught me. He was one of the most stylish singers of his time, the last of the Rococo age, a true tenore di grazia. Maybe this is why I have such an affinity towards Naples. 🤔🌋☀️⛈️☕️🍷🍕🎭🏴‍☠️

We are very sorry to announce the postponement of our next concert (23 November) which will now take place on Sunday 22 March. Michael Hall is currently in the Victoria Hospital with sever bronchitis. Due to the length of the illness we are now behind with rehearsals. A punishing catchup rehearsal schedule over the next 10 days followed by concert day is not a serious option. My sincere apologies to everyone. Letting people down is the worst thing ever for me.
