Opened in December 2002, ruling the roost for over 10 years, in the building which was formerly an ABC theatre and cinema where The Beatles famously played in their early days.

At its time The Syndicate was the UK’s biggest nightclub with a capacity of more than 4,000 people, Peter Stringfellow cut the metaphorical ribbon and played the ceremonial first record in 2002 when they officially launched

By 2003 they had already been declared UK Club of the Year and in 2004 they hosted the world renowned BBC Radio One Essential Mix with the legendary Pete Tong!

Over the years they welcomed some of the biggest names in dance music to grace the decks including Eric Prydz, Roger Sanchez, Paul Oakenfold, Calvin Harris, Dave Pearce, Judge Jules & more!

We got in touch with original resident DJ and talent booker Jason Fubar to ask him to share some of his memories with us!

Wigan Casino hosted their All-nighters between the years 1973 and 1981, becoming known as the primary venue for music in the UK and further afield. It was rumoured to be voted as β€œThe Best Disco in the World” by Billboard in 1978, ahead of Studio 54 in New York, although resident DJ Richard Searling's who worked over 400 All-Nighters, went to great lengths in his recent book to stress there has never been any documented evidence of any such award being made or publicised at the time

With a capacity over 1,200 and at one stage having more than 100,000 members, during the 8 years they welcomed vast amounts of people through its doors to dance to the best Norther Soul around on the maple-sprung Dancefloor. People would travel the length and breath of the UK to experience the Casino all-nighters, initially started by local DJ Russ Winstanley, followed by Ian Fishwick, Richard Searling and Kev Roberts, who has spoken about his love for the Casino many times!

Every night at the Casino, the final three tracks would be the same, coined as the β€˜Three Before Eight’, "Time Will Pass You By" by Tobi Legend, β€œLong After Tonight Is All Over" by Jimmy Radcliffe, and β€œI’m on My Way” by Dean Parrish. Over the 8 years, it would play host to some of the biggest stars in soul music such as Jackie Wilson and Edwin Starr!

For the short period of time that Legends was open, 1990 til 1993, it became the heart and soul of Warrington’s short-lived house scene. At a time when the Hacienda was flying, it provided the North with a much more no-frills experience to clubbing which was never put into the limelight.

Located within Warrington Rugby League Club, Legends was essentially a box shaped snooker hall, which had a low ceiling, DJ booth located central to the crowd and graffiti decorating the walls! Kev McCue and Sean Mellor both cut their teeth as promoters during this period, starting off with local bands which led on to them being given full control over the club, eventually booking the likes of Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Happy Mondays and Blur.

Music was supplied by local DJs Steve Williams, Mike Woods, Rich Garvin and Darren Noguerol who all played their part in creating a legacy at Legends, inspired by the likes of Mike Pickering and Graeme Park to create a more house music focused nightclub.
