It was great to get back on the water with Sporting NRG on Saturday 🛶

Using our pontoon at Audley Community Park, we had lots of participants canoeing on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, many of whom hadn’t canoed before!

We welcomed over 100 people to Audley Community Park on Saturday for our family open day to get involved in free canoeing sessions, flax harvesting, den building with EDITIONAL STUDIO and model pavilion making with Matter at hand alongside wonderful food from local cook collective Tastes of Home.

Thank you to all who came by on Saturday, and to everyone who’s supported and attended the Summer School we’ve hosted at the space over the last month - it’s great to see so many people trying new things, meeting new people and enjoying this green space that we’ve been developing in Audley.

Keep an eye on our social media and website (link in bio) for updates regarding more upcoming activity over the final month of Summer!

You’re invited to a day of creative activity, den building, canoeing and food on Audley Community Park this Saturday 15th August! ⬇️

Join artist Lewis Jones of Matter at hand for an interactive model-making workshop using his Poured Earth building blocks to model and test ideas for a possible future structure on the park! Build a stick den with architects Editional Studio, canoe on the canal with Sporting NRG, help harvest this year’s crop of flax grown on the site and have a delicious communal lunch inspired by home cooked dishes from around the world by Taste of Home Cooking Collective.

This is a great opportunity to enjoy this green oasis, once the site of a cotton mill, now filled with wildlife and lovingly cared for by the community for everyone’s pleasure.

The developing project with Matter at hand is co-commissioned by Super Slow Way and the National Festival of Making, following Matter at hand’s two year Art in Manufacturing residency at Darwen Terracotta, with the National Festival of Making.

This is a FREE day of activity for Blackburn residents, children under the age of 12 should be accompanied by an adult.

Participants can park for free in St Paul’s Church carpark. Please note that free parking is NOT available in Jans Conference Centre car park. 🅿 ️

🗓️ Saturday 15th August, 12-4pm

📍Audley Community Park, on the field next to Jans, Higher Audley St, Blackburn BB1 1DH - Please enter the site through the woodland entrance on the main road (Higher Audley St).

On Saturday we celebrated the unveiling of three new public murals in Accrington town centre, commissioned by Hyndburn Borough Council, Super Slow Way and Uncultured Creatives. More than just works of art, these murals reflect the town’s rich heritage, creativity, and the people who make Accrington unique.

Each mural has been created through collaboration between artists and the local community, ensuring that the stories behind them are authentic and meaningful.

The parade began at the Peel Memorial Seating Area, where the pipe band started their performance, and led us through Accrington town centre to visit each of the new artworks.

At the end of the event, we had some closing words from Hyndburn’s Mayor Noordad Aziz and everyone received a commemorative postcard featuring one of the 3 murals. Thank you to all who attended and of course the brilliant The Accrington Pipe Band for their performance - it was great to see so many people join us for the parade, as well as local residents leaving their shops and homes to catch the band as they passed through!

This project has been produced in collaboration with Hyndburn Borough Council and Uncultured Creatives.
