A really great afternoon last Saturday at our Messiah Choral Workshop. We were really pleased to have so many visiting singers and we made a surprisingly good attempt at some of the more difficult choruses and, of course, the Hallelujah Chorus. The cakes in the interval were delicious - thank you to all our cake chefs.
We break for the summer now and will return on Tuesday September 8th ready to rehearse in detail for our concert on 28th November. If you would like to join us details can be found on our website www.chewvalleychoral.org.uk

Many people believe that 'every day should be a school day’ and last Saturday was certainly no exception. Even members of the audience with a keen interest in local history may have learned something new from our concert of words and music celebrating the history of the Chew Valley. Subjects ranged from Keynsham Abbey to wassailing, coal mining to catastrophic flooding. Our Musical director, David Bednall, had enjoyed finding short items of music to go with each topic – from folk songs to rousing protest marches. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to put this together.
Our next event is a ‘Come and Sing’ choral workshop to explore Handel’s 'Messiah'. This will be on Saturday 13th June in Bishop Sutton Village Hall from 2.00 – 5.00 p.m. For more information or to book, go to www.chewvalleychoral.org.uk/sing-messiah

If you don’t, you might find the answers, and some other interesting facts, at Chew Valley Choral Society’s concert on May 9th, 2026, in the beautiful setting of All Saints Church, Publow.
With the help of local history groups, and others, we have put together a selection of music and spoken word to give a flavour of the rich and varied history of our area.
Tickets can be bought through our website www.chewvalleychoral.org.uk/concerts, on the door and from choir members, and cost £15 for adults and £6 for children and students.

We’re excited to be putting together all the contributions to the first concert of our 50th Anniversary year.
This will be on May 9th, 2026, in the beautiful setting of All Saints Church, Publow, and will be a celebration of the Chew Valley and surrounding areas.
