Pictish Trail at Birnam Arts, Sunday 2nd August — his only solo show of 2026, and honestly one of the best live shows you'll see this year.

Johnny Lynch (Isle of Eigg) plays songs from his brand new album LIFE SLIME. If you know his music, you already need to be there. If you don't, this is the perfect introduction.

Support comes from Sulka - the Glasgow project of Lukas Clasen, whose music is quietly brilliant. Intimate vocals, lo-fi production, mood shifts that catch you off guard. Hints of alt-folk, grunge and shoegaze all pulled together into something that feels completely his own. Arrive early.

Rachel Sermanni outside Birnam Arts on one fine summer's eve (we hope!) 🎶🌿

Wednesday 26 August | 6pm – 10pm | Beatrix Potter Garden | £20

Sermanni performs in the Beatrix Potter™ Garden at Birnam Arts on 26 August, presenting material from her new album Dreamer Awake.

The album, recorded live to tape in a Devon studio with jazz improvisers, marks a departure from her earlier work. Inspired by Nan Shepherd's mountain writings, the natural world, and Sermanni's own experience of becoming a mother, the record favours intimacy over polish. The live-to-tape approach captures performances that feel immediate and deeply personal.

Sermanni's career spans over a decade, with releases that draw from contemporary folk, jazz, rock and traditional Scottish music. Critical reception has been consistent: Time Out described her work as "Folk of the Highest Order," while MOJO referred to it as "folk noir."

The garden setting offers something different from the auditorium – a chance to hear this music in the open air, as the light begins to fade. The performance runs from 6pm to 10pm, with doors opening at 5.45pm.

We hope you can join us for what promises to be a be a gorgeous and memorable evening.

Before he was reshaping how the world played guitar, Bert Jansch was a kid in Edinburgh learning folk songs in smoky clubs. Glasgow-born and Edinburgh-raised, he went on to become one of the most influential guitarists Scotland has ever produced - a fingerstyle pioneer whose sound rippled out to Jimmy Page, Neil Young and Nick Drake.

One story says it all: Page was so floored by Jansch's arrangement of an old folk tune that he recorded his own version of it on the very first Led Zeppelin album - "Black Mountain Side."

On Friday the 17th of July, that Scottish legacy comes home. A lineup of artists steeped in Jansch's tradition — with more still to be announced — bring his songbook to life right here in Perthshire, from his early solo records to the jazz-folk adventures of Pentangle.
