If our Metropolis show were just something to listen to, we could have sent you the MP3s and saved ourselves a tour bus.

But an MP3 can’t give anything back when she sings. You did.

UK, you were glorious.

You came into theatres across the country, sat down in front of a 99-year-old silent film, and let us make a frankly unreasonable amount of noise around it.

You cheered. You stood. You told your friends. You wrote reviews that made us laugh, tear up, and occasionally question whether we had accidentally formed a very polite cult.

To every audience member, venue, promoter, technician, musician, singer, driver, helper, photographer, friend and stranger who carried this strange machine from one city to the next: thank you.

Metropolis may be silent. You were not. 🖤⚡

The UK tour is over. The machine has powered down.

My first band. 🐒🧸

A monkey. A bear. Me.

We had no songs, no instruments and, judging by the photograph, I was already unhappy with the sound mix.

Swipe for Victoria. She appears to be midway through a solo. Nobody had given her a microphone, but she wasn’t going to let a minor technical issue hold up the performance. 🎤

I love these pictures.

Neither of those kids had the slightest idea they’d end up doing this together. That I’d write music for silent films. That she’d help give those films a voice. That we’d find ourselves in the UK with a bus full of ridiculously talented people, bringing Metropolis to life.

You look at old photographs and want to tell the people in them what’s coming.

In my case: “You’re going to need a bigger band.” 🎸

We’re down to our final three UK shows. I’d love you to come see us.

A film can survive for nearly a century.

But a live performance unfolding in perfect sync with that silent film exists only once.

To everyone who has stepped into Metropolis with us, thank you. You travelled extraordinary distances, brought friends and, on one unforgettable night, gave our performers a standing ovation that lasted nearly ten minutes.

You gave this strange, beautiful machine a life beyond the screen.

Now four rooms remain.

The lights fall. The first chord hits. Metropolis wakes. Then the room empties, and the moment is gone.

Maria couldn’t travel across the pond from Los Angeles.

Airport security asked her to remove all metal. ✈️

So Kevin went alone.

She says she’s proud of the tour.

He still has no circulation, but he’s afraid to pull away.

Cute.

Now put *Metropolis* on a screen big enough to swallow you. Bring eight performers into the room. Give them an original rock score and permission to wake the machine.

That is not home viewing.

That is Vox Lumiere.

At first, people had questions.

Is it a film?

Is it a concert?

Is the score really performed live?

Why is the robot looking at me like that?

Then the lights went down.

Metropolis filled the screen.

The band hit the first chord.

And we started hearing the same thing:

“Ahh. I get it now.”

This happened often enough that we built an actual FAQ.

The machine considers this both flattering and wildly inefficient.

We did not change Metropolis.

We changed what people hear when they see it.

One audience member travelled 180 miles to see Vox Lumiere. 🚗

The M25 was closed. 🚧
The journey home took four hours.

Their response?

“I’d do it all again.”

The machine has reviewed the evidence.

DISTANCE TRAVELLED: excessive.
MOTORWAY COOPERATION: minimal.
HUMAN DETERMINATION: magnificent.
VERDICT: the machine may have developed a small feeling. ❤️

To the human who made that journey: thank you. We are genuinely thrilled that a 99-year-old silent film, a live rock band and one very loud night made it feel worth doing all over again.

For everyone else, five opportunities remain.

We cannot promise cooperation from the British road network.

We can promise METROPOLIS at full voltage. ⚡
