Yesterday we held our first official A&R Academy session at YouTube Music

We were joined by Richard Lutkin from Island Records, who gave our cohort an insight into the world of A&R, breaking down what the role really looks like and sharing knowledge from his own journey in the industry

We also had Maddie Smith from the YouTube Music team join us to share more about the platform, the power of digital and how YouTube plays a part in artist discovery and development

And we didn’t stop there…

Later that evening, we took the cohort to meet legendary producer Fraser T Smith an incredible way to round off the first official session

We’re absolutely devastated by the passing of DJ Buxley

Buxley gave so much of himself to the community. He made time for people, shared what he knew and helped others find their way. We were lucky to have him as a mentor on our Community Routes programme, where he brought that same care and generosity to the next generation

He dedicated his life to serving others, and so many people are better for having known him. The city will miss him deeply

Sending love to his family, friends and everyone in the community grieving his loss. Rest in peace, Buxley 🕊️

To kick off the programme, our cohort had the opportunity to hear from renowned music executive Jo Charrington, who shared insight from her career, experiences in A&R and the industry, and advice for the next generation coming through
