DIGBETH JAZZ | Q3 2026 S10 | HOME/LANDS | TUES 8TH SEPTEMBER 2026 7:30PM | THE NIGHT OWL B9 4AG / £8 / £6 STUDENT

Home/Lands is a musical exploration of home and what it means to belong, led by multi-instrumentalist & composer Alicia Gardener-Trejo. With collaboration at the heart of the project, the band use the topography of familiar landscapes as catalysts for composition, take poems and short stories as writing prompts, and exchange musical stimulus in a pass-the-parcel approach. Their music plays with the sonic possibilities of low woodwinds & double bass, experimenting with fresh ideas of melody/bassline responsibilities. With strong influences from the world of jazz and folk, Home/Lands features improvisations, game-pieces and intricately crafted melodies.

DIGBETH JAZZ | Q3 2026 S9 | JOHN POPE QUINTET | TUES 1ST SEPTEMBER 2026 7:30PM | THE NIGHT OWL B9 4AG £8 / £6 STUDENT

Acclaimed UK bass player John Pope pilots this outstanding band of improvisers through explosive, anything-goes energy music; open-hearted, joyous and fearlessly intuitive. Drawing on 60s free jazz and hard bop with a modern,‘vibe-hopping’ sensibility, this ensemble of Northern improvisers revel in spontaneous celebration of in-the-moment creativity. Exploring Pope’s off-kilter musical territory with deep trust, humour and ‘irresistible joie de vivre’, they hop from powerful swing to melodic mystery to out-there skronk at will, always searching, always generous. Featuring Jamie Stockbridge (Taupe, Agbeko) on alto and baritone saxophone, Faye MacCalman (Archipelago, Anemone Quartet) on tenor sax and clarinet, Graham Hardy (Northern Monkey Brass Band, Ushaw Ensemble) on trumpet and Johnny Hunter (Sloth Racket, MoonMot) on drums, this acoustic powerhouse have brought their merry clamour to audiences all over the nation, from legendary jazz venues to prestigious festivals to DIY art spaces.

BIG BLOWOUT DISCO PARTY

Come down and celebrate another year of Digbeth Jazz. This year we’re bringing the 12 piece Disco Odyssey, Disco Manifest, to our big birthday bonanza. As well as featuring our resident DJ Ric for an extended set after the main gig!

We’re even gonna do a raffle!

And there’s samosas!

This year, in honour of the late Brian Homer and with the help of our dear friend Stef Work, we’ll be donating all the income from this event to two charities, Pancreatic Cancer UK and the Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust. We’ll be operating with our standard ticket prices as a minimum entry fee, but we’re encouraging everyone to throw in a little extra if possible to support such an important cause.

Tickets can be bought online or on the door. If tickets are bought online you will be able to donate anything extra you wish to give on the door also.

See you there!
