Southside, Birmingham

Southside, Birmingham News and updates from Southside, Birmingham's vibrant entertainment district!

Over the past decade, Southside has emerged as a distinctive quarter within Birmingham’s expanding city centre. This welcome change has been driven by a unique mix of developments including those restaurants, bars and clubs which characterize the area’s Chinatown and Gay Village, the Arcadian Centre, the redeveloped Birmingham Hippodrome and Birmingham Royal Ballet complex, the Radisson Blu Hotel,

O2 Academy and the city living that happens in between. Southside is the newest and brightest Business District in Birmingham and we'd be delighted to welcome you, if you feel like a great day or night out.

Last Friday, we had a fantastic time at PROUD Day 2026, joining partners and community organisations for a day of celebration, connection, and networking. 🌈

Hosted by the West Midlands Police LGBT+ Network, the day brought together a fantastic mix of partners, local charities, sports clubs, and community groups. We enjoyed seeing the impressive demonstrations from the WMP horses unit and other operational teams, before spending the afternoon chatting, networking, and getting to know so many amazing organisations!

With great music, community stalls, and a relaxed picnic-style atmosphere, it was a brilliant opportunity to celebrate diversity, make new connections, and strengthen existing partnerships.

A big thank you to everyone who helped organise the event. We had a wonderful time and look forward to supporting future events like this!

Taste different parts of Asia without leaving Birmingham!

Southside is one of the city's most exciting food destinations, where you can travel from Hong Kong to Tokyo, Seoul and Chengdu all in one place!

At Store 9, you'll find authentic Cantonese flavours with freshly prepared roast meats made daily using traditional Hong Kong methods. Their signature Triple Roast Rice combines crispy roast pork, sweet char siu and succulent roast duck for the ultimate comfort meal.

For a taste of Japan comfort food, head to Gyo Curry. Known for its authentic Japanese curry and halal-friendly menu, their Chicken Katsu Curry Omelette Rice is a must-try, featuring crispy chicken katsu, fluffy omelette rice and a perfectly balanced curry sauce. And don’t forget to try their desert!

If you're a spice lover, or gathering with friends and family, Xiong Qi Hotpot offers an authentic Sichuan hotpot experience. Choose your favourite meats, seafood and vegetables and cook them in your choice of broth, from fiery spicy Sichuan flavours to milder options. Hotpot is more than a meal – it's an experience to share.

Craving Korean food? Tayudo brings the authentic Korean BBQ experience to Birmingham with charcoal grills, unlimited meats, seafood, Korean fried chicken and buffet dishes. It's no surprise they've been recognised as a Tripadvisor Travellers' Choice Award Winner 2024.
