Thank you to Chris Totney - returning to his Midlands home-ground yesterday - to play June’s Thursday LIVE organ recital in St Chad’s Cathedral, which was enjoyed by a large audience. In a programme which also included Bach, Buxtehude, Duruflé and Phillips, Howells’ Psalm Prelude set 1 no 3 in particular explored the many colours of the fine Walker organ, and an exciting rendition of Boëllmann’s ever-green Suite Gothique received lengthy applause.

This month’s recital on Thursday 7 May 2026 was a programme of music by living composers performed by Paul Carr. At the heart of Paul’s programme was Paul Spicer‘s 3-movement Suite for Organ - full of rhythmic energy, colour, and rich harmonies. We were delighted to welcome Paul Spicer to St Chad’s Cathedral for this occasion, pictured here with Paul Carr and David Saint.
