A full circle moment for our Principal Second Horn, Neil Shewan!

When we played Varèse’s Amériques earlier this month as part of our Orchestral Residency week, Neil sat down to find his score was the same score he had played from at the BBC Proms when he was in The National Youth Orchestra in 1996.

What a fantastic example of the lasting impact youth programmes have in developing professional musicians 💫

From Symphony Hall to the Royal Albert Hall...

The BBC Proms were a blast! What a way to kick off the start of the CBSO's summer break with our Music Director, Kazuki Yamada ❤️

Rounding up the first-ever CBSO Orchestral Residency week 💫

From rehearsals, workshops and masterclasses, we invited over 50 emerging young musicians to sit side by side and experience what it's like to play in a professional orchestra for a week.

A huge thanks to our conductor, Edward Gardner, and assistant conductor, Wilson Ng, for their guidance as well as all those who made the residency possible, offering young musicians from conservatoires across the UK to experience this unique opportunity 🫶

Let the first CBSO Orchestral Residency begin! 🌟

This week we're welcoming young musicians aged 21 to 25 to sit side-by-side with CBSO musicians, culminating in a concert at the end of the week, performing music by John Adams and Varèse 🎶

It's incredibly exciting to have the CBSO Centre filled with so much talent and to support these young musicians taking their next steps towards a professional orchestral career 🤗

A huge thanks to Wilson NG, who is our assistant conductor leading rehearsals at the start of this week.

Who else is still reminiscing over our performance of Tosca last week?

Puccini certainly knows how to write arias that pull on the heartstrings, and this moment with Gwyn Hughes Jones and Anna Patalong is no exception 💔
