Main Stage Drama

Main Stage Drama Fully inclusive charity-run drama group in Sutton Coldfield for children and young people aged 6-16. The group runs on Saturday mornings in two age groups.

We promote emotional wellness through top quality performing arts tuition. Welcome to Main Stage- the drama group where everybody gets to take Main Stage! We are an unusual drama group in that our main aim is to promote emotional wellness in young people. We do this through top- quality triple threat (acting, singing, dancing) musical theatre tuition. We are based in Sutton Coldfield for children

and young people aged between 6 and 16. We welcome all children and aim to help young people build confidence, achieve more than they dreamed and find fun and friendship along the way. As a charitable group, it is important to us that no-one is excluded due to financial reasons. Please speak to us in confidence about our referral and bursary programmes. Main Stage is for children aged approximately 6-11. The classes last 2 hours. These classes include warm up, devising, acting, games, singing, dancing and more. These classes cost less than Β£10 per week paid by monthly direct debit. UP Stage! is for children aged 11 and over who are at secondary school. are expected to have a greater degree of input into their work than the younger children, taking ownership of their learning. These two hour classes cost less than Β£10 per week, paid by monthly direct debit. Children do not require uniform at Main Stage. However, we do request that they wear soft-soled shoes such as trainers or pumps and dress suitable for being active (eg leggings under short skirts). We have hoodies and t shirts available to buy. All Main Stage staff and adult volunteers hold a current DBS check. Younger volunteers are always supervised by staff. Staff have experience with wide-ranging issues such as LGBTQ+, anxiety, ASD, self harm, deafness, physical disabilities, ADHD, dyslexia and much more. Collaboration and support are vital for the success of everything we do at Main Stage. We aim to get the very best out of every child and that requires that all feels secure, happy and uninhibited in the group. Everyone will be valued and respected equally by both the staff and each other. It is our only rule – that everyone is kind and respectful towards everyone else. Parents do not normally stay during sessions. However, you are free to do so at any time if you or your child prefers. Just grab a chair. Similarly, feel free to come back slightly early at the end of the session to see what we have been up to! Main Stage is run by the charity Apollo which aims to improve mental health and wellbeing through music and the performing arts. The charity employ a team of highly skilled and experienced staff. We are very proud of our young leaders programme which trains performing arts leaders of the future. The young people gain valuable skills and confidence as well as learning about emotional regulation and stress management and how to best promote positive wellbeing through fun activities.

Thank you so much to all the children and young people who joined us for zoom sessions this morning. It was fantastic to see everyone so well and full of energy. You really cheered us all up and it was lovely to hear what you've been up to. You inspired us with your thoughtfulness and positivity. Great messages were shared about the importance of staying safe at home, appreciation for NHS and other key workers and finding the good in a difficult situation. We should all salute the younger generation- we could learn a lot from them (and have fun along the way!). We can't wait to see you all again next Saturday, same time! 😁 Thank you all, Emma and Claire

We had a great session on Saturday morning preparing for our end of term presentation to friends and families. The young people worked with such energy and enthusiasm in a hot hall!

We would like to warmly invite you all to come along at 12.00 next Saturday 13th July for a drink and a cake before a short presentation of work we have prepared this term. It's very rock n roll, so bring your dancing shoes! 😁

Had a quiet session today but we packed lots in! Groups continued working on their performances ready to showcase them to friends and family on the 13th and we explored some great drama games. Everyone worked really hard considering the heat! Time to enjoy the sun and see you all next week β˜€οΈ

What a fantastic term we have had and it was all finished off by our performances today. Every single member of our group has helped devise, choreograph and perform. This was a taster from one of our group performances today in rehearsal and they sound amazing! Emma and I are super proud of all of them and all their family and friends who came to support! Have a lovely Easter 😊
