Thanks to a £5,000 grant from Heart of England Community Foundation, Propel Dance delivered Freewheelin – weekly wheelchair dance sessions for adults with physical disabilities in Northfield and South Birmingham.

Over 30 weekly sessions, Freewheelin created a safe, inclusive space where wheelchair users could move, connect and thrive. Led by a professional dance leader and supported by a trained assistant, the sessions improved physical health, mental wellbeing and confidence, while tackling social isolation head-on.

The impact speaks for itself:

✔️ 100% of participants reported improved physical and mental health.
✔️ 100% made new friends and felt less isolated.
✔️ Increased confidence, coordination and wheelchair skills.
✔️ One participant went on to win Team GB’s first-ever para dance gold at the Amstelveen International Competition 2025 🥇

Participants told us the project helped them feel part of a team, build lasting friendships and discover what’s possible through inclusive dance.

“It’s provided essential fitness, confidence and social connection. I really notice the difference if I don’t go – and it’s a lot of fun!”

We’re proud to support projects like Freewheelin that strengthen communities, champion inclusion and change lives through movement 💙
