Every single workshop, someone says the same thing to me within the first ten minutes: "I should warn you, I'm not creative at all."

And every single time, by 4pm, they're standing there holding a piece of glass they made with their own hands, looking a bit stunned, saying "I can't believe I made this."

That's the bit I never get tired of.

I've got a copper foil stained glass workshop coming up on Saturday 7th November, 10am–4pm, at The Grange in Burley-in-Wharfedale. It's a full day, but a relaxed one, cups of tea, a proper lunch break, and plenty of time to actually enjoy what you're doing rather than rush it.

You don't need to have made anything before. You don't need to know anyone else in the room. You definitely don't need to be "arty" (that word gets used a lot and I think it puts people off more than it helps).

All you need is a willingness to have a go and get your hands a bit dirty.

I'll be there guiding you through every step, from cutting your first piece of glass (much less scary than it sounds, promise) right through to soldering your finished piece together. By the end of the day you'll have something you made yourself, ready to hang up and show off.

Tickets are £65, and that includes all your equipment and materials. You just need to turn up. They are selling quickly so I’d recommend that you get a wiggle on if you fancy coming along!

🎄 So… how did you spend your August Bank Holiday?

Me? I spent mine in the shedio… prepping for Christmas! 😂

Yep, while everyone else was enjoying the last bank holiday of summer, I was:

✨ Checking stock
✨ Ordering glass
✨ Digging through ideas
✨ Planning the 2026 Christmas tree decoration designs

It does feel slightly bonkers thinking about Christmas when we’re still technically in summer, but handmade glass decorations don’t magically appear in December. There’s quite a bit of planning, designing, cutting, foiling and generally making a rather lovely mess involved!

And I’ve got some gorgeous ideas brewing for this year’s decorations… 👀

So watch this space. Christmas may be months away, but things are already getting festive in the shedio!

✨ Small group, BIG creativity! ✨

Today’s copper foil glass workshop in Bingley was a small but perfectly formed affair, with a lovely group of crafters ready to have a go and get creative.

There was no experience required, just plenty of enthusiasm, curiosity and a willingness to give something new a try. And look at the results! 🤩

It’s always brilliant watching a piece of glass slowly come together, from those first slightly nervous cuts to the moment you step back and think, “I actually made that!”

A huge well done to today’s crafters. You absolutely smashed it! 🥰

Join me at The Craft House, Main Street, Bingley on Sunday 16 August, from 9.30 am until 3.30 pm, for a Copper Foil Glass Workshop.

No experience is needed, absolutely everything is provided, and I’ll guide you through every step. By the end of the day you’ll leave with a beautiful handmade piece and, quite possibly, a brand new hobby.

One important rule though… we operate under Las Vegas rules. 😉 What happens in the workshop stays in the workshop. The only thing anyone else needs to see is your finished masterpiece and your promise that you created it entirely on your own!

As some people may have noticed, I’m slightly obsessed with stained glass! 🤭 I love creating it, I love admiring it, and I’m always happy to chat about it with anyone who’ll listen.

A showcase for some of Britain’s finest stained glass windows

It’s been such a lovely day and we’ve spent most of it working in the garden… so naturally, my thoughts have turned to Christmas! 🎄😂

Every year I design a brand new fused glass Christmas ornament. It’s become a bit of a tradition, especially for those lovely customers who come back year after year and enjoy adding a new piece to their collection.

I’ll start making this year’s ornaments in September, with final orders closing in the first week of December.

At the moment, I’m thinking about creating a poinsettia, inspired by this beautiful flower. I love its bold shape and festive colours, and I think it could make a gorgeous glass decoration.

What do you think? Is a poinsettia something you’d love to hang on your tree, or is there another Christmas design you’d be excited to see this year? I’d genuinely love to hear your ideas because some of my favourite designs have come from customer suggestions. ❤️

One of the things I hear most often is, “I’m just not creative.”

Honestly? I think most people are. They’ve just convinced themselves they’re not because someone once told them they couldn’t draw, or they worry they’ll make a mess of it.

People often know me for my copper foil glass workshops, but glass has so many different techniques to explore. Over the years I’ve learnt fused glass, created traditional stained glass pieces and, this year, I challenged myself to learn glass painting.

What I love about glass painting is how accessible it is. There’s no glass cutting, you only need a handful of tools and materials, and you don’t have to be an artist to create something beautiful. You can trace designs, build your confidence as you go and simply enjoy the process.

This little koi carp is one of my latest creations and it’s now hanging in my office window. Every time the sun shines through it, I’m reminded that trying something new is always worth it.

Creativity isn’t about being naturally talented. It’s about being curious enough to have a go.

So, if you’ve been telling yourself, “I’m not artistic,” maybe it’s time to challenge that belief.

“I’ve always wanted to have a go… I’m just worried I’ll be rubbish.”

If I had a pound for every time I’ve heard that, I’d probably have enough to buy a lot more glass!

So many people tell me they’ve wanted to try glass making for years, but they’re worried they’ll break the glass, cut themselves, or simply won’t be any good at it.

The truth is, it really isn’t as scary as it seems.

I’ll guide you through every step in a relaxed, friendly environment, and before you know it you’ll be creating something you’ll be proud to take home. No pressure, no experience needed, just a willingness to give it a go.

I’ve been running workshops for years and, touch wood, I’ve never had a bad review. In fact, there’s almost always one person in every workshop who leaves completely hooked and is already asking when the next one is!

I absolutely love watching people arrive feeling a little nervous and leave smiling, full of confidence, with a beautiful piece they’ve created themselves. That’s the best part of what I do.

So, if you’ve been telling yourself, “Maybe one day”, perhaps this is your sign.

Some people have been supporting Gracie Glass Bingley since the very beginning, and Joyce is definitely one of them. 💛

Nothing makes me smile more than seeing what people create on a workshop day, especially when they leave with a piece they’re genuinely proud of.

This beautiful glass beetle was made by one of my recent workshop attendees, and just look at the detail and creativity that’s gone into it! 🪲✨

I’m always amazed by what complete beginners can achieve in just a few hours with a little guidance, plenty of encouragement and a lot of imagination.
