Thursday has come around quick but that means it's time for a new ! Matthew Whitehouse is our Music Librarian at TPO Towers, meaning all the music (yes... ALL!) for The People's Orchestra, The People's Show Choir, The Rusty Players Orchestra, The People's Big Band and Underscore are organised, printed, packaged and distributed by him.

Like some of our team, Matthew had previously worked as a successful Kickstart placement before being employed by the charity in 2022. Leading a demanding but vital task, Matthew is one of our most valued members of the team. 🏅

Coming from a musical background, Matthew has arranged notable concert pieces for our orchestras and choirs such as 'Walking In The Air' (available to listen here https://youtu.be/Ov3w_vqor8I). Performed in front of our audience at our Christmas concert in Birmingham Town Hall, it was warmly acclaimed by our members! If you know a good piece, Matthew is sure to find it or turn it into a shining success! 🌟

When he's not buried underneath stacks of sheet music, Matthew enjoys exploring his creative side playing the piano or learning a new instrument. He also loves cooking, going out with friends and getting hooked on a gripping true crime documentary with his favourite peppermint tea. 🍵

Wasn't that fantastic! 😃🎶

Thank you to everyone who came along to watch us perform as Underscore! 🙏 We had a BLAST playing our special arrangement of the Spider-Verse score, Earth Wind & Fire and other popular music representing cultures from around the world. ❤️

Big props to Bradley Wilson for conducting his last performance with us - we are sorry to see him go and hope he will be back soon.

Hello everyone! Just under 3 hours till showtime! The sun has been shining on us, outside and in spirit as we undertake our pre-concert rehearsal!

✨What is Underscore?✨
Underscore was set up by The People's Orchestra Charity to showcase world music as well as special compositions from underrepresented musicians, engage with those disconnected with classical music and to display the talents and abilities from all musical and cultural backgrounds. Underscore performs a wide range of cultural music such as reggae, hip-hop, pop, southeast asian and Bollywood themes and songs on a project basis!

Thank you so much to everyone who came to watch us at The People's Mini-Fest on Sunday and to Jennifer Blackwell Space for having us! 🌟 Bringing a different vibe whilst highlighting how everybody celebrates the festive season was integral to our performance and we're very happy you enjoyed yourselves! 🎶 We heard that someone in our audience was moved to tears by our rendition of "Redemption song", bless them! 🥰

We are looking forward to coming back very soon in 2024! But for now, Merry Christmas to wherever you are in the world! 🎅🌎
