Things are getting busy at The Old Brewery Artist Studios .

We are very excited to be hanging our first curated exhibition, the Benchmark Festival of Arts.

We are thrilled to announce our first event open to the public and free to attend from Friday 11th September in our exceptional gallery space. The inaugural exhibition of the Benchmark Festival of Arts is a celebration of Berwick and the lower reaches of the River Tweed through the eyes of Artists, Photographers and Sculptors.

This year, we have a specially curated exhibition featuring sculpture, excellent photography and well known local artists - all master minded by Berwick local, James Herriot. Our ambition is that the Benchmark Festival of Arts becomes an annual open call to the local arts community and a celebration not only of the Tweed but also of the incredible local creative talent we have in the area.

We are delighted that this event will span both weekends of and .

It is an honour and a privilege to announce our next group of resident artists!

In their own words...

Create a Space CIC is a community visual arts project for young, creative neurodivergent people living in Berwick upon Tweed and North Northumberland.

We are a user informed and lived experience led organisation that provides opportunities for our participants to make visual art and develop their creative skills using the creative health model. We also run traineeships in which members of our cohort get an opportunity to work for Create a Space, allowing them to understand the dynamics of running a studio and a creative business.

In the studio we work in small groups and one to one, and we also run larger group workshops from project spaces. Facilitated by creative practitioners and social enablers we focus on individual creative agency and the enablement of our users to make work of their choosing and design.

Our participants create a broad range of visual arts products, and our studio will be used to make work on paper and canvas, sculpture and textile – amongst others! The studio will allow our users to experience making work in a dedicated space amongst other artists, allowing them to see what being an artist can be like.

Keep your eyes peeled as we introduce more of the Old Brewery Artist community!

We are thrilled that we can now start announcing our eight new resident artists, very soon to be moving in to the Old Brewery Artist Studios.

First off the blocks is the marvellous David Green David Green .

Dave is an idealistic, driven, irreverent artist in the tradition of Soutine and Schwitters. Previously an educator, mental health advocate, workshop pioneer, and sometime postman and banana harvester, he is often to be found roving the coastline with his antique easel and photogenic dog looking for angles on landscapes and seascapes that no one has considered before.

A recent exhibitor at Foldyard, he tends to know a good thing when he sees it. And Berwick is currently a good thing.

Scroll to see examples of David's work.

We look forward to revealing more of our artists in the coming weeks! Stay tuned folks....

We are proud to announce our second exhibition at The Old Brewery Artist Studios showcasing the work of local Berwick photographer Jordan Hodgson.

For centuries, the River Tweed has shaped the lives of those who work upon it. Along its banks and tidal reaches, salmon fishers have developed a deep understanding of the river’s moods, seasons, and rhythms.

Aligning perfectly with this year's Heritage Open Day theme, "Everyday histories", this exhibition documents the salmon fishers of Berwick-upon-Tweed during the spring and summer of 2026.

Created over several months, the photographs offer a glimpse into a community whose work is defined by patience, skill, and an enduring connection to the River Tweed.

For opening times and more information, look out for your programme of events for this year's HOD Berwick or visit www.heritageopendays.co.uk.

Drum Roll!!!! 🥁 🥁 🥁

The Old Brewery Conversion is now complete! Thank you to the many, many people involved in making this happen.

We are so excited that this heritage building which supported the fruitful labours of artisans for centuries as a brewery has been repurposed and brought to life as a place of industry and ideas for our local creatives.

The real alchemy happens when the artists move in! We can't wait to see new ideas ferment and mature in the studios, workshop and gallery space!
