THE McGURK'S BAR WORKSHOPS
As some of you might know, Green Shoot Productions has been running training workshops for people from the New Lodge, Carrick Hill, Newington and Lr Antrim Rd. who want to take part in the new play THE McGURK'S BAR TRAGEDY, by leading Playwright, Martin Lynch.
The workshop this week had over 20 participants, including prominent New Lodgers, Paddy McCooey, Joe Doherty, Eileen O'Halloran and the great Louis Small, DJ. We also had Finlay McAuley's young grandaughter, Leila who, from her first outing, shows great promise.
Some scenes from Martin's script were enacted, directed by Matthew McElhinney, Billie Mills and Emiear Bailie and everybody agreed the scenes were powerful. It was particularly poignant to have George McLaughlin there, the son of Thomas McLaughlin - who was one of the victims of the bomb - acting in scenes that involved his father's story. Anyone from the area who would like to join the workshops can contact Martin at 07851 122 254. Places are filling up. Regular workshop leader, the brilliant Rhiann Jeffries will be back next week to the lead the workshop.

Last night, we brought our Community Theatre group and Ashton Community Trust Seniors group together to see ‘Cuckoo-land’ by Kabosh Theatre Company at The MAC starring our wonderful Drama facilitator Christina Nelson .

Theatre visits are an important part of Green Shoot Production’s current New Lodge Community Theatre Residency Programme, showing the community what professional theatre can offer and inspiring individuals to take part in our upcoming large scale community play - sometimes with the added bonus of watching your very own workshop facilitator in the show!!

If you or your community group in the New Lodge area are interested in getting involved, please email [email protected]

Thank you to our funders Irish Foreign Ministry for supporting an incredible evening where these individuals could attend this engaging and important piece of theatre.
