🚨 Cavehill / Limestone consultation 🚨
Just wanted to make people aware of something that could affect our local area as it's somewhere I’m really passionate about.
The Department for Infrastructure has opened a consultation on proposed pedestrian and cycling changes along Cavehill Road, Limestone Road and York Street.
I’ve lived on the Cavehill Road all my life. My mother, father and grandparents lived here too, so this road and the surrounding area mean a lot to me. It’s not just somewhere I pass through. Its character is part of what makes it home.
The plans appear to include changes to parts of the road layout, crossings, cycle lanes, bus stops and footpaths.
I’m all for safer streets, and this isn’t a rant about cyclists. I’m for making roads safer for people walking, cycling and driving. But I do think the people who live here, work here, walk here, drive here and use the road every day should have a proper say before anything moves further.
For me, safer streets should not come at the cost of removing mature trees or damaging the character of Cavehill Road and Limestone Road.
Some of the things worth looking at are:
• Any impact on mature trees
• Traffic and congestion
• Parking and access for residents
• Local businesses and deliveries
• Bus stop changes
• Older residents, families, school routes and people with mobility needs
Personally, I really don’t want to see any mature trees removed from Cavehill Road or Limestone Road as part of this. They’re part of the character of the area and once they’re gone, they’re gone.
It’s still at the public engagement stage, so now is the time to look at the plans, ask questions and send in feedback.
