Dagda (2025)

The iconic Harp holds a special place in my heart, from it being the instrument that my mother used to play to it being one of the symbol associated of my country and an important instrument in our folklores and myths as well.

I have revisited this drawing many times over the years and illustrated many different pieces incorporating the harp in it , it has turned into a ritual of sorts we’re each piece done shows me how far I’ve come with my skills and techniques as an artist and using it as a bench point on where to improve.

This piece was the largest and most detailed drawing to date that I’ve done and the hardest one I’ve ever attempted so far, many times I’ve contemplated quitting it or thought it was ruined but like many things in life it’s important not to give up , this piece pushed my to the limits where I questioned if it was worth the amount of hours it was taking with well over 150 hrs in the drawing of this piece alone.

There is still much I need to improve on as an artist but I am proud of this piece and happy with the way it came out , hopefully when I revisit it again in a number of years there will be even more improvements in my work as an artist .

Hope you all enjoy and please let me know what you think , many thanks !

The quality and detail that is able to be captured in this print is amazing, Once again a massive thank you goes out to Rush Digital Printing for there work, I'm blessed to be working with a company that can capture the time and effort spent in each Art piece. The detail I've spent countless hours creating is captured perfectly to be available for others to own and see up close for yourselves.

I personally love the texture on the 290gms Hahnemuhle Natural Range Paper The prints are done on, I believe it giving it a Lovely natural look. I love too that It is very similar to the texture of paper used for the original artworks themselves giving you an almost Identical replica of the original Art piece itself.

Hope you all like my latest work and if you are interested in purchasing this or any of my previous prints for yourself, please check out my Etsy shop linked below, Many thanks!

Nuada

Nuada was king of the Tuatha Dé Danann for seven years before they came to Ireland. They made contact with the Fir Bolg, the then-inhabitants of the island, and Nuada sought from them half of the island for the Tuatha Dé, which their king rejected. Both peoples made ready for war, and in an act of chivalry allowed their numbers and arms to be inspected by the opposing side to allow for a truly fair battle. During this first great battle at Mag Tuired, Nuada lost an arm in combat with the Fir Bolg champion Sreng. Nuada's ally, Aengaba of Norway, then fought Sreng, sustaining a mortal wound, while the Dagda protected Nuada. Fifty of the Dagda's soldiers carried Nuada from the field. The Tuatha Dé gained the upper hand in the battle, but Sreng later returned to challenge Nuada to single combat. Nuada accepted, on the condition that Sreng fought with one arm tied up. Sreng refused, but by this point the battle was won and the Fir Bolg all but vanquished. The Tuatha Dé then decided to offer Sreng one quarter of Ireland for his people instead of the one half offered before the battle, and he chose Connacht.

Having lost his arm, Nuada was no longer eligible for kingship because of the Tuatha Dé tradition that their king must be physically perfect, and he was replaced as king by Bres, a half-Fomorian prince renowned for his beauty and intellect. The Fomorians were mythological enemies of the people of Ireland, often equated with the mythological "opposing force" such as the Greek Titans to the Olympians, and during Bres's reign they imposed great tribute on the Tuatha Dé, who became disgruntled with their new king's oppressive rule and lack of hospitality. By this time Nuada had his lost arm replaced by a working silver one by the physician Dian Cecht and the wright Creidhne (and later with a new arm of flesh and blood by Dian Cecht's son Miach). Bres was removed from the kingship, having ruled for seven years, and Nuada was restored. He ruled for twenty more years.

Bres, aided by the Fomorian Balor of the Evil Eye, attempted to retake the kingship by force, and war and continued oppression followed. When the youthful and vigorous Lugh joined Nuada's court, the king realised the multi-talented youth could lead the Tuatha Dé against the Fomorians, and stood down in his favour. The second Battle of Mag Tuired followed. Nuada was killed and beheaded in battle by Balor, but Lugh avenged him by killing Balor and led the Tuatha Dé to victory.

A few days later than expected I had hoped to make the prints available and alighting the release with the Lughnasadh Festival of Harvest and Light

This festival, which falls on August 1st, is dedicated to Lugh, the god of light and arts and marks the beginning of the harvest.

According to legend, Lughnasadh was established by Lugh in honour of his foster mother, Tailtiu. Tailtiu sacrificed to prepare the Irish plains for agriculture, working tirelessly until he dies. Before he died, he demanded that the plain become his grave and that every year a feast should be held in his honour. So, Lugh organized funeral games and celebrations to commemorate his sacrifice and to thank the earth for his gifts.

Lughnasadh is a thanksgiving celebration for the first harvest of the year. It is a time to celebrate nature’s bounty and to reflect on the cycle of life, death and rebirth. During this festive season, banquets are organized, bonfires are lit and games and competitions are held in Lugh's honour. It’s also an auspicious time for weddings and to renew the vows of allegiance.

Hope you all enjoy and do let me know what you think. Many thanks for your support!

Lugh

The latest Artwork and a new take on a previous Illustration of the Character I am Very pleased with the finished result of the next god in my series Lugh.

Lugh or Lug is a figure in Irish mythology and a member of the Tuatha Dé Danann, Lugh is portrayed as a warrior, king, a master craftsman and a saviour. He is associated with skill and mastery in multiple disciplines including the arts. He has associations with oaths, truth and the law, therefore with rightful kingship. He is linked with the harvest festival of Lughnasadh which bears his name. His most common epithets are Lámfada "long hand" or "long arm" possibly for his skill with a spear or his ability as a ruler and Samildánach "equally skilled in many arts".

In mythology, Lugh is the son of Cian and Ethniu. He is the maternal grandson of the Fomorian tyrant Balor, whom Lugh kills in the Second Battle of Mag Tuired and is father to the hero Cú Chulainn who is believed to be an incarnation of Lugh.

Lugh has several magical possessions, He wields an unstoppable spear "Gáe Assail", a sling and owns a hound named Failinis. He is said to have invented fidchell a board game akin to chess, ball games, and horse racing.

Lugh is also said to have founded the Tailteann Games, Compedative games resembiling the Olimpics of Greece. The games were founded, according to the Book of Invasions, by Lugh as a mourning ceremony for the death of his foster-mother Tailtiu. Lugh buried Tailtiu underneath a mound in an area that took her name and was later called Tailteann in County Meath. The event was held during the last fortnight of July and culminated with the celebration of Lughnasadh, or Lammas Eve (1 August).Modern folklore claims that the Tailteann Games started around 1600 BC, with some sources claiming as far back as 1829 BC

Limited Addition Prints will be available soon ,hope you all like my latest work and please do let me know what you think , Many thanks! 😁
