This Christmas my son Christian turns 3, which these days is faster than I can finish a painting.

This portrait is based on an image from his first birthday - the look on his face an instant reminder of the sleepless nights, the sicknesses and all of the milestones along the way.

From a painting perspective I used a limited palette and wanted the entire process itself to remain part of the finish - the initial wash, the transitions, the brushwork all left visible to show the evolution of the painting.

Because just like toddlers, paintings grow layer by layer.

Pleasure to do this portrait of Erin (2), the daughter of my good friend Conor Agnew. We've known each other since we were 11, and just entering big school. It really is amazing just how fast time goes by 🎨
