Before A Streetcar Named Desire. Before Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. There was The Glass Menagerie.

Before Tennessee Williams wrote two of the most celebrated plays in theatre history, there was the play that changed everything.

The Glass Menagerie was Williams’ first great success—a groundbreaking masterpiece that introduced one of the greatest playwrights of the 20th century to the world. Nearly 80 years later, its story of memory, love and longing remains as powerful as ever.

This October, award winning Belfast theatre company Tinderbox brings this timeless classic to the MAC as part of Belfast International Arts Festival.

One of the greatest plays ever written. Right here on your doorstep.

The Glass Menagerie is Tennessee Williams’ most autobiographical play.

Photo 1: Williams with his mother, Edwina, who inspired Amanda Wingfield.

Photo 2: Williams with his beloved sister, Rose, whose life and struggles helped shape Laura.

Drawing on his own family, Williams transformed personal experience into one of the greatest dramas ever written, a story of memory, love, and the painful longing to escape the past.
