We are proud to welcome Neil Gillespie at Canvas!

Neil Gillespie lives and works in Belfast. His paintings on assembled board combine patterns, forms and botanical motifs set within modular fields of colour and texture. Through a balance of gestural mark-making and deliberate arrangement, the works embrace tensions between perfection and imperfection, order and disruption.

Using acrylic, crayon, oil stick, and spray paint, Gillespie foregrounds process, experimentation, and the tactile qualities of surface. Influenced by both Naïve Art and Modernism, his practice occupies a space between spontaneity and control, playfulness and poise.

Gillespie has exhibited widely across the UK and Ireland, including group exhibitions at The Alchemy Experiment, Arcade Studios, The Engine Room, Outset Gallery, Terrace Gallery and the Royal Ulster Academy’s Annual Exhibition at the Ulster Museum. Notable commissions include works for Capparelli at the Mill, Belfast and The InterContinental, Dublin.
