Creative Exchange is an artist -led organisation based in East Belfast which provides workspace for visual artists

Creative Exchange was established in East Belfast in 1996 and in the intervening 25 years has contributed to the history, culture, economy and culture of its locality. Creative Exchange seeks to provide affordable working space for the artistic community, particularly in East Belfast, whilst providing a programme of opportunities for artists to prioritise their practice, develop professionally, en

gage with communities, raise both individual and collective profiles, and contribute to the sectoral infrastructure in East Belfast and beyond – regionally, nationally and internationally.

Back in 2024 Creative Exchange had the opportunity - thanks to support from Belfast City Council - to undertake some research into different Studio Space Models with visits to organisations in Leeds and Glasgow, chatting about their development, sustainability and financing.

At a time when the studio sector in Belfast faces significant challenges, this research offers insight into long-term building security, diversified income models, and the role of civic partnerships in sustaining creative infrastructure.

The article on our blog provides a public summary of our findings from the experience. We extend sincere thanks to all the organisations artists and freelance professionals who met with us at the time for their generosity in sharing their experience, learnings and insights with us.

Anyone in the Belfast studio sector who'd like to hear more about this work is welcome to get in touch with us.

We are ready to give you the warm welcome we promised here in Creative Exchange..open tonight 5pm - 8pm and tomorrow 12-4 alongside the massive Portview Christmas Market from

Literally hundreds of local vendors, producers, makers and artists spread all across the Portview site and and the most wonderful festive atmosphere.

(Ps: Emerging Exchange artists Eimear and Emma will also be opening their studios up in unit A202 - across the skybrige from the top floor on level 2)

Shop local, support local artists and have yourself a jolly good time.

This Sunday November 30th a couple of our artists are inviting you into their studios where you might like to treat yourself or someone special to something handmade and beautiful this festive season.

Thanks to everyone who visited us on Saturday for our Open Studios event in collaboration with as part of the 🙏 😍

We had almost all our artists members involved for at least part of the day, opening their doors (or curtains) for chats about art and practice. There was a lovely atmosphere all day long.

Quick snap of how full the hall was last September opening our 2024 annual exhibition BLOCK. That show was part of Eastside an initiative led by when they were in Connswater and supported by Bank of Ideas funding. We couldn't believe how full the big space got on opening night!

We miss our creative neighbors but don't let us be lonely upstairs this year friends. Let us know, are you planning on coming to the opening Thursday 6pm - 8.30?

Stuff we love to see ❤️👀

Some kind of visual display for our membership has been bounced around in discussions for while at Creative Exchange.

Our .the.artist took initiative to make this happen, printing the lovely website content on all our studio artists for a portable, updatable display board. Woo!

We will move it upstairs next week for display during our FUSE exhibition and once it's over, install it in the main studio. You can read it all online too (link in bio) but it's also nice to have a physical thing.

Our Emerging Exchange artist members Emma and Eimear are doing a mini open studio in unit A202 this Sunday Aug 31st between 12-4.

Lots of reasons to be out enjoying culture around portview that day, it's AND the massive exhibition will be on upstairs. ( Their studio is just over the sky bridge from it, there will be signs! ) and of course you can do all that and end with a lovely pint in
