Passengers arriving at Belfast Grand Central Station on Tuesday 22 September can expect something a little different, as the Ulster Orchestra takes to the station floor for a free live performance at 4pm.

The performance, part of ‘Sounds at Saltwater’, will see the Orchestra bring live music into the heart of the station in partnership with Translink, and will close this year’s ‘Summer at Saltwater’ events programme.

We always enjoy our annual concert at Hill of The O Neill & Ranfurly House in Dungannon and it was great to see so many people in the audience on Sunday afternoon.

David Brophy conducted the Orchestra in a programme of classical music favourites and our flute section leader Mark Taylor was the soloist in François Borne's Fantaisie brillante on Bizet’s 'Carmen'.

Join the Ulster Orchestra on 12 September as we open the doors to our beautiful Grade B+ listed building, formerly Townsend Street Presbyterian Church, where the Orchestra has been based since 2022.

Built in 1878 and designed in Romanesque revival style by renowned Belfast firm Young and MacKenzie, Townsend Street Presbyterian Church has stood at the heart of the community for almost 150 years, and was once the centre of a thriving network of national schools which served the local area.

Join us for short talks, a tour of the Church space ground floor and live performances from Ulster Orchestra musicians.

As part of this year’s EHOD theme: 'Heritage at Risk – Revive, Resist, Reimagine' we will celebrate the fascinating past and plans for the future of this remarkable site as the Orchestra embarks on a redevelopment project to create a rehearsal space and community engagement hub designed to remove barriers to music for all.

Free event • All welcome • Drop in between 11:00-14:30 • No booking required
