THE SUNSET OF NORMALITY

As the last ripple of sunset
fades beneath the twilight sky
I look upon the twinkling stars
as a tear forms in my eye.
Remembering the good old days
and how things used to be
a million vivid memories
that mean so much to me.
Our lives are unpredictable,
our paths often tough to navigate,
made harder by this current world
full of vitriol and hate.
Where common sense is frowned upon,
acceptance hard to find,
a generation of entitlement
in which anxiety fuels the mind.
I fear for our children,
whose best years are yet to come.
What awaits them in the future?
Will they escape the system's thumb?

LUNAR CORONA

A kaleidoscope of colour from celestial defraction,
encompass the moon, a night of atmospheric interaction.
Glorious coronae like a beacon in the sky
attract the attention of those casually walking by.
Rarely seen in such wondrous splendour
it creates a buzz with those watching online,
photographed by many,
but my favourite one is mine!

AUTUMNAL VISITORS

Now we've had the autumn equinox
it's just the time of year
when those eight legged little friends ,
inside homes, do suddenly appear.

Coming in to find some warmth
they find a place to hide,
like high up on your ceiling,
or at your cosy bedside.

Every year, you'd swear they get bigger,
more abundant and faster too,
like mini friggin' tarantulas
that belong in a jungle or zoo.

Fear not, though, as they're harmless
and will die off all in good time.
No need to squish or flush them,
just ignore and you'll be fine.

THE STORM

As the sound of distant thunder intensifies
and the humid air turns into rain,
I eagerly await the lightning show
mother nature can be insane.

The recent heat has hit a cold front
high in the atmosphere.
Conditions are totally perfect
for an electrical storm to appear.

A dazzling burst of brightness
illuminates the skies
followed by a deafening explosion of thunder
that caught me by surprise.

Eager with anticipation, I grab my camera
to record this stunning sight
as a series of further strikes
give vibrant colour to the night.

The rain that started so gently
now bouncing and intensive
the sheer number of lightning bolts
somewhat terrifying and extensive.

An old oak tree across the road
struck by an almighty direct hit
stands sadly broken and burnt
it's, once grand, trunk now totally split.

I have always loved the sound of thunder,
and found lightning strangely stimulating,
a glorious and rhythmical illustration
of heightened senses not abating.

THE LIST

Cut the grass, w**d the borders
give the hedge a trim.
Clean the patio furniture
it's starting to look grim.
Fix the tap it's leaking
align the cupboard doors as well.
Give the bin a thorough wash
and rid it off that aweful smell.
The skirting could do with repainting,
a couple of ceilings too.
Once you've finished that lot
here's more for you to do.

Tidy up the kitchen drawers
they're an uncoordinated mess.
Clear the wardrobes of unwanted clothes
we need more space, not less.
The carpets could with washing
the bathroom tiles a quick steam clean.
Then a bit of high level dusting,
I want to see it gleam.
Do you think I'm Superman?
Anything else you may have missed?
I'll tell you what I'm going to do
I'll add it to my list!

Flawless perfection, never seen by reflection.

END OF SUMMER

So summer is over
Well, wasn't it fun?
Eight weeks of rain
and bu**er all sun.

Bookended by heatwaves
when the kids were in school,
struggling in their uniforms
trying to stay cool.

Many businesses left
with an abundance of stock,
a drop in profits,
recovery taking a knock.

But look at the weather
other countries have endured
so many lives lost
and others injured.

Forest fires, flooding
prolonged extreme heat
unwanted records
continue to be beat.

Are we in a position
where we can complain
about the lack of sunshine
and a little bit of rain?

There is always next summer,
it has to be better,
but knowing our luck
it'll be even wetter!!

DESERT PARADISE?

Once barren deserts,
no plant or seed,
now towering symbols
of exuberance and greed.

One built by money
from casino participation,
the other funded
by an oil rich nation.

Ever growing in size
an attraction to many,
only if you're willing
to spend quite a penny.

Pushing the boundaries
of innovative design,
playgrounds for the wealthy
luxurious hotels and restaurants divine.

CHANGE

We cannot bury our heads in the sand
and hope that things will change.
Tough decisions must be made
outside our comfort range.

Analyse the data and calculate the risk,
always strive to do your best.
Don't be afraid of failure
or holds things to your chest.

Go out and be that leader
the one who sees things as they are.
Take that chance to make a difference,
create impact to raise the bar.

DECISIONS

We live our lives
by the decisions that we make.
Most are unimportant
but expect the odd mistake.

It's how we react
than defines who we are,
not where you live
or the size of your car.

Agendas are being pushed
by a myriad of voices
all trying to manipulate
our freedom and our choices.

Open your eyes
and look beyond the classes,
the world is changing
don't get caught up in the masses.
