Afternoon all.
Now that it's another year done and after discussions with older members of community we have looked back on years gone by and how well controlled bonfire was. The last load of years this has been left to alot of youngsters without the help of older ones, which resulted in fires on path, rubbish all over road etc ,the fly tipping was out of control .
There will be alot more control for 2024.
No wood will be placed at site until a reasonable time (currently looking into some sort of storage) any help will be greatly appreciated on this.
We would ask residents that if there is fly tipping of rubbish, household waste, white goods ,more or less anything other than wood to please don't be frightened to take a photo of reg and culprits in the act of tipping. These photos can be sent to this page and will be passed onto authorities.
Cctv will be put in place this year to help cut this down.
No fires will to be lit on the path, there will be a designated area for any fires .This path is used by local residents especially the pensioners at the bungalows and they use this on a daily basis for shop, walking dogs etc, this needs to be respected.
On the fires alot had been lit by young fellas not from the area and from areas well beyond milltown/belvoir.
The month leading to bonfire,I will ask for bins to be put in place or these will be bought from funds we raise and every night a clean up will be done.
Every other week or so we will will running scratch cards to raise money for fun day and for front field to be decorated, food and for electric as for years on end one local resident has used electric for bouncy castles etc and this also needs to be funded as we all know its not cheap.I will not put their name on this page but a thanks to this family for the years of doing this. We will also try to raise other funding for this, but next year closer to the time we would like to ask locals to donate what they can toward this.
If local businesses would like to donate sweets, juice, crisps for kids this would be greatly appreciated.
I would also like to try organise a day for all the young fellas to visit the boyne and learn abit of history on why we celebrate the 12th July and why a bonfire is built and lit. This is apart of culture that alot don't understand and the more they learn the better as on each year it is being chipped away at.
Lastly I would like to thank all the young lads who came out other those couple weeks before 11th and done their best to tidy the site up as I said before the fly tipping was unacceptable and out of control, due to the young lads been at school and work.
The bonfire brings young fellas together for a month of the year and creates friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime people might look at this as something different but also for mental health it's great as gets everyone out a few hours a night instead of sitting with a headset on and glued to tv ,doing something together they all enjoy and it brings happiness and joy to them all.
Milltown bonfire 2024 will be something to be proud to look at and be apart of.
