Stop lighting fires at bonfire site.Hasnt even been there 2 weeks and already fires every night.

This will only result in the pallets being lifted and possibly not having one this year.

We will have cages put back round to stop the place being a mess.

After 1 month of hard graft the people of Milltown have built something to be proud of.
Not built out of hatefulness or to cause disruption to anyone but built to continue to celebrate a culture.A culture that we will continue to celebrate for many years to come, no matter how much we are attacked.

Another day and night of hard work.

Some fellas have been up from 9 this morning working away.Giving up a day off to get out and help out.

More pallets have been collected.

All scrap wood has been near enough cleared, road and footpaths brushed down.Overall just a good general clean up.

Great to see brothers, father's and sons, uncles and nephews, cousins and best mates all working together .

During the week we will be down for another clean up from whatever gets dumped.

Evening all

Only 29 small days left to go,just thought I'd give you all an update.

Firstly we want to thank everyone who bought football teams to help raise funds.

Saturday past we started collecting for the bonfire and used £125 the funds we raised to get a van and pay for petrol.

A few locals have been out collecting I'm trailers and vans,no names mentioned but they no who they are. Thanks Lads.

On Saturday evening we started the building of the bonfire and tidying the site. All the young lads from round the area are trying their best to keep the road clear and a crowd will be down every other night to keep on top of this.

There has been some out of control fires, but alot of this has been down to young ones from outside the area. This has been now stopped and most nights we will have a controlled fire to get rid of scrap lying around.

There have been controlled fires the last few nights I have been there. On 2 occasions fire brigade have been called. The culprits calling fire brigade are not from the area but only a short 30 second walk down the hill.By calling the fire brigade this is wasting not only tax payers money but wasting the time of fire brigade when needed elsewhere!!!

Calling the fire brigade for nothing is an attempt to constantly put in the head of others that there needs to be a stop of this bonfire. This is another attempt to eat away at our culture.Bonfires have been around way before we have been born and will continue, especially in Milltown.

If anyone in the estate needs wood lifted contact the page and we will come lift it. Also if anyone has info on pallers please do the same.

We will begin full build toward the end of the month and any help will be appreciated.

This is one time of the year when different groups of young lads come together, they don't see each other most of the year but it brings a community together. These young lads make lifelong friendships when building, collecting etc.But it also brings out togethness ,pride and last but not least a few hours to get out of the house. The latter helps with mental health, the young lads are out of the house couple hours of the night bonding and creating great memories. Long may it continue.

Lastly its time to bring back the bonfires of old and show what the wee Milltown estate can do.

If any has good pics from old bonfires, 11th night pics and the old arch could they send them in please

Afternoon all.

Now that it's another year done and after discussions with older members of community we have looked back on years gone by and how well controlled bonfire was. The last load of years this has been left to alot of youngsters without the help of older ones, which resulted in fires on path, rubbish all over road etc ,the fly tipping was out of control .

There will be alot more control for 2024.

No wood will be placed at site until a reasonable time (currently looking into some sort of storage) any help will be greatly appreciated on this.

We would ask residents that if there is fly tipping of rubbish, household waste, white goods ,more or less anything other than wood to please don't be frightened to take a photo of reg and culprits in the act of tipping. These photos can be sent to this page and will be passed onto authorities.

Cctv will be put in place this year to help cut this down.

No fires will to be lit on the path, there will be a designated area for any fires .This path is used by local residents especially the pensioners at the bungalows and they use this on a daily basis for shop, walking dogs etc, this needs to be respected.
On the fires alot had been lit by young fellas not from the area and from areas well beyond milltown/belvoir.

The month leading to bonfire,I will ask for bins to be put in place or these will be bought from funds we raise and every night a clean up will be done.

Every other week or so we will will running scratch cards to raise money for fun day and for front field to be decorated, food and for electric as for years on end one local resident has used electric for bouncy castles etc and this also needs to be funded as we all know its not cheap.I will not put their name on this page but a thanks to this family for the years of doing this. We will also try to raise other funding for this, but next year closer to the time we would like to ask locals to donate what they can toward this.

If local businesses would like to donate sweets, juice, crisps for kids this would be greatly appreciated.

I would also like to try organise a day for all the young fellas to visit the boyne and learn abit of history on why we celebrate the 12th July and why a bonfire is built and lit. This is apart of culture that alot don't understand and the more they learn the better as on each year it is being chipped away at.

Lastly I would like to thank all the young lads who came out other those couple weeks before 11th and done their best to tidy the site up as I said before the fly tipping was unacceptable and out of control, due to the young lads been at school and work.

The bonfire brings young fellas together for a month of the year and creates friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime people might look at this as something different but also for mental health it's great as gets everyone out a few hours a night instead of sitting with a headset on and glued to tv ,doing something together they all enjoy and it brings happiness and joy to them all.

Milltown bonfire 2024 will be something to be proud to look at and be apart of.
