Be honestβ€”do you pack a project bag even for short errands, just in case?

I filmed this waiting for the train and it genuinely sums up my whole thing. There's something so peaceful about making progress while the world moves past you. Five minutes, ten minutes, half an hour on a delayed train (not that that ever happens...) it all adds up.

Never leave home without a project in your bag. That's the rule and I'm sticking to it.

What's your current carry-everywhere project? Tell me in the comments! And if you're looking for your next one, come find us in Belfast or shop online at hanksyarnparlour.com 🧢

Right, so I was packing up weekend orders and fully just trying to get through the pile β€” and then I pulled these three together and had to stop and stare for a second.

Blush, denim blue, and burnt orange. Whoever ordered these clearly has excellent taste and I'm a little bit obsessed.

Anyway β€” a huge thank you to everyone who placed an order this weekend. Every single purchase is going toward fundraising for The Shed in Antrim, which is genuinely lovely, and I'm so grateful to have customers who make that possible πŸ’›

If you're seeing something you like here, the shop's online at hanksyarnparlour.com β€” and if you fancy a browse in person, I'm open Tuesday to Saturday 11am–5pm.

Anyone else suddenly ready for autumn knitting season? Just me? πŸ˜‚

Last night I headed over to Antrim for a pub quiz fundraiser in aid of the Ladies Shed Antrim, and honestly it was such a brilliant evening. πŸ’›

The Ladies Shed is an incredible organisation that gives women a safe and welcoming space to meet, chat, and get crafty together. Sounds a bit familiar, right? Sadly, they recently lost their premises to a fire, and they need help getting back on their feet.

The quiz raised over Β£1,600 which is just amazing β€” and I got to meet the wonderful Christine, who puts so much heart into keeping this community going.

But I wanted to do more. I've added a donations link to the Hanks website if you'd like to contribute directly. And starting right now through the end of September, a portion of proceeds from every single sale at Hanks will be going to the Ladies Shed Antrim.

So if you've been eyeing up some new yarn... this is your sign 🧢

Socks are one of those things β€” once you start, you genuinely cannot stop. I say this as someone who has made... a lot of socks. 🧢

The Stripey Socks Workshop is coming back to Hanks on 7 & 21 October, 6:30–9pm, and I cannot wait.

In two sessions we'll knit cuff-down socks with afterthought heels, and we're diving into helical knitting β€” a brilliant little technique for achieving jogless stripes that feels like a magic trick once it clicks.

This class is perfect for adventurous beginners and intermediate knitters alike, as long as you're comfortable working in the round. And honestly, once you've knitted one pair of socks, you'll be planning the next before you've even cast off.

Yarn, pattern, tea, and biscuits all included. Max 8 students, so it's always a lovely little workshop vibe.

Book your spot at hanksyarnparlour.com before they're gone!

These cables in my possum vest are coming along beautifully, and the texture is just dreamy. I may have sat down "just for a few rows" three times today. 🧢

If you've been following along, you'll know this is a New Zealand possum yarn β€” and I'll be honest, I'm slightly obsessed with how it's knitting up. Every cable and braid just keeps pulling me back in.

Which brings me to a question I still don't have a strong answer to myself: when you're working texture or coloured motifs, do you end on the complicated row so you come back to the easy one, or do you finish on the easy row and dive straight back into the tricky bit? I genuinely go back and forth on this with almost every project. Drop your answer (and your reasoning!) in the comments β€” I'd love to know.

Pop in or browse online at hanksyarnparlour.com if cables are calling your name.

OK so I teased this yesterday and here's the full reveal β€” Ricorumi is HERE and honestly I was not prepared for how good this range is. 😍

Ricorumi is a DK cotton yarn by Rico Design, and I've brought in the full range β€” 80 shades. Eighty. I laid them all out and just kind of stared at them for a bit. They're so soft and squishy and the colours are genuinely gorgeous.

The big thing with Ricorumi is that it's made for amigurumi β€” those cute little crocheted animals that look impossible but really aren't. I've got six amigurumi kits in stock (frog, dog, cat and more), so if you've been wanting to have a go at your first one, this is a very easy place to start.

Oh, and there's a glow in the dark yarn in the range. Yes, really. I may have already bought some for personal use. No regrets.

Come in and have a squish, or grab yours online β€” link in bio! 🐸

Something exciting is currently sitting on my shop floor and I cannot stop grinning.

Did I order new stuff? Yes.
Does new stuff have a place to live in the shop? Not really, but I'll figure it out somehow πŸ˜‚

Watch this space, because I have a feeling some of you are going to be very excited about what's inside. πŸ‘€

Follow along so you don't miss the reveal and drop your best guess in the comments!

Just a little heads-up β€” the shop will be closed this Tuesday, 25th August. I'll also be pausing online order dispatch for the day, so if you've been eyeing something up, it's worth grabbing it before then! 🧢

The online shop is always open for browsing and ordering at www.hanksyarnparlour.com β€” orders placed on Tuesday will go out as usual on Wednesday.

Back to normal Wednesday β€” see you then! πŸ’›

πŸ‘» This little ghost crochets up in an evening... and glows in the dark. Yes, really.

I'm running a Spooky Amigurumi class on Thursday 1st October, 6:30–9pm, and you'll go home with your very own tiny haunted friend made with glow-in-the-dark yarn!

Amigurumi is the Japanese art of crocheting small stuffed toys, and this class is a brilliant intro to the technique. If you can chain and double crochet, you have everything you need. I'll guide you through a magic ring, increases and decreases, and how to put it all together.

Just bring your 3.5mm hook (3.0mm if you crochet on the loose side), a stitch marker, and a darning needle. Everything else is included in the Β£25 class fee.

Spots are limited to 8, so grab yours while they're still haunting the booking page! πŸŽƒ
