For anyone based in Northern Ireland (and even if you're not!) Samuel Steele has launched a Kickstarter for a great new hobby space/store in Coleraine! I just backed it and think you should too!😂

Help us launch Misfit Hobbies, a brick-and-mortar tabletop hobby shop, so that every Misfit can find their fit!

The "trying to improve by painting more minis" continues. I'm quite happy with this first little squad. I've managed to accrue a decent little army of space marines from a first strike starter set, paint intercessors set and a few issues of Imperium magazine. More than I even realised I had. Hopefully enough to get some games with. I'll keep posting progress pics for those who are interested! Anyway I'm learning plenty from what I'm doing right and even more from what I'm doing wrong!

Since rejoining the hobby world I've painted fewer than 10 models. Terrain always interested me more and I was better at it. The problem is when you don't do something you don't get any better at it. I've determined to get better at painting because I want too enjoy painting models. I have loads to paint and I have made a start. YouTube videos from and and accounts on here like are major inspiration and have been loads of help. Hopefully I can do a before and after in a couple of years and the improvement will be noticeable! 😂

Valves and ribbed cables for dirt cheap! Just wanted to share a bit of a recommendation from my own experiences. Lego steering wheels from ebay (£2.99 for 20) and curtain wires (£1.99 for 2.5m) The steering wheels are a great scale for pipe or tank valves and the curtain wire - basically a long spring - scales almost exactly to official GW ribbed cables. I put a length of wire inside to allow it to be bent to shape. Curtain wire is also available in amazon.

Painting has begun! Decided I wanted to keep a bit of colour in my hive. I usually stick with black but I thought some bright colours heavily muted with an oil wash would look pretty good! Still loads to add. Stencils, decals, osl etc. But a good start!

It's hard to beat that initial prime! One of my favourite things to do is try and find cool little corners of the terrain to take photos from. Creating little vignettes. However the downside of that is discovering the priming that you thought had been so successful the night before is revealed to be not so complete!

"Hanging around the underhive" - Really love this guy. Made out of the skull from a set of halloween lights and assorted broken toys etc. A buddy for the big servo skull! I'm so nearly ready for priming it's excruciating but I keep thinking of things to add!😂

This guy is going to be "hanging around" somewhere in my hive board. I'm pretty pleased with how he turned out! He'll compliment the big servo skull well! Mini which was within arms reach for scale 😂

The hive is coming together! Not sure how many eyes this will get on it on a lovely sunny Sunday but I took these last night as I'm really enjoying where this table is going! I like the thought of layers built on top of layers of, sometimes complimentary and sometimes contradictory, building styles and materials in the hive in my mind. So that's kind of what I'm aiming for with this table. Lots more detail and structures to come!

I have really rediscovered my hobby mojo recently and I'm starting to get very excited about the direction this necromunda/skirmish table is going. I'm finally using up loads of bits I've been hoarding. It's a 3x3 ft board and I'll be doing a couple of other 3x3 to combine if I want. Still loads of stuff to add!

I've long wondered about using a screen (TV/computer monitor) as a background for mini shots. So I thought I'd throw something together quickly as a proof of concept. Sure the background is a bit bright compared to the practical stuff but I think with some tinkering, the right lighting etc this could work! 😂
