Back in March we hosted our very first one-off workshop where we had the absolute privilege of having visiting director Eleri B. Jones ( ) with us for an Acting for Camera Workshop.

This month, as things are a bit quieter we'll be returning with some more one-off sessions, focusing on introducing techniques and skills performers can use in their work.

This month we have a 3 hour Intro to Meisner Technique Session for Beginners, a 3 hour session of Meisner Repetition Practice and another Acting for Camera workshop as well to keep those skills fresh!

All info at the link in the bio.

Observe

We're on to week 4 of our first beginners course and of course have had lots of great drop-in class members as well!

We wanted to share a bit about the process of the Meisner Technique for anyone who thinks they would like to give it a go ahead of our next dates being announced!

We start with observe. Focusing on the other artist without letting the critical mind get in the way, just looking, not thinking.

This allows us to take the focus off of ourselves and place it outside the body thereby letting us be more spontaneous, genuine and emotionally responsive to what is happening around us.

Without worrying (thinking) about what we're doing or how we look in any moment, we are free to focus on the living person in front of us and form a genuine, exhilarating relationship in that moment.

Call

This Wednesday is the final week of our first 6 week beginners course and we've really enjoyed practicing the craft with a group of great, committed performers.

After observing, we call. Placing our attention and focus on the other performer, without critical thinking, we approach the exercise with imagination and instinct.

By calling what the other performer is doing or feeling we allow our words to impact them and activate their emotions and instinct in their responses. By truly being present and vulnerable in the moment, we often get surprised at what comes up when we don't allow our critical thinking to censor ourselves.

Repeat

We start our second batch of courses tomorrow! This time with Beginners and Intermediate levels.

Repeat - the core of the work. After observing and calling, the work is done and all we do is repeat what we hear from our own point of view. No thinking or analysis, just instinct and emotional reaction. By allowing the mind to switch off and put all our focus on the other performer and in the simple act of calling and repeating, we allow ourselves to be completely present and open to whatever genuine, spontaneous emotional reaction the words bring up in us.

The emotional life of our relationship and every interaction guides the direction of the exercise, our only job is to follow where it leads and allow it to affect us in whichever way it does.
