With sadness the Beaumaris Victorian Christmas Committee have decided to cancel this year’s event. We are discussing options for the weekend of 29th & 30th November with other organisations, and will announce them here as they are confirmed.
There are a number of contributing factors that have influenced our decision to cancel the 2025 event:
• The new one way system will prevent our use of Rating Row for stall holders, something that we relied upon in 2023 and 2024. We have looked at various options but there are no realistic, practical options available.
• The wonderful new café in the David Hughes centre reduces the available space at that venue.
• The Canolfan is booked for the weekend by The Druids Society, which removes one of our venues completely. It is not available for the only other viable weekend either, due to an annual booking.
• The County Council have indicated that they would require us to use a professional, registered road closure signage company this year, which would add up to £2,000 to the costs.
• Commercially, the projected costs of the event will be difficult to recover from potential income, allowing for the reduction in revenue from the first three points. Our bucket collections from the 2024 event totalled £312.67 over the 2 days, this was as a result of our not being able to obtain free use of The Green and the Beaumaris Town Council charging full rates for parking during the event weekend. At the 2023 event we were able to ask for a donation at the entrance to the car park which helped tremendously, with nearly everyone who entered making a donation;
• the 2023 and 2024 events were besieged by issues and objections which added unnecessary stress and difficulties which affected the planning and running of the event.
Combining the above with the fact that the committee is run by a small group of volunteers, all of whom have businesses of their own, and who have limited free time to devote to the planning, let alone the physical running of the weekend, we feel that the sensible decision is to cancel the event rather than lose money and/or put on a sub-standard event.
We apologise to the thousands of people who have enjoyed the event, to all those who supported us with their time and to the traders and entertainers who made the event what it was.
