October invites us to reflect on the stories that shape who we are. Every artist draws from a unique combination of heritage, place, culture and lived experience. This month is an opportunity to explore your creative roots, celebrate the influences that have shaped your practice, and recognise the people and communities that continue to inspire your artistic journey. By understanding where your work comes from, you can create with greater authenticity and purpose.

Her work explores themes of memory, emotion, and sensory experience - often drawing on influences from nature, family, literature, and art history-to create layered, expressive pieces that blur the boundaries of traditional fine art.

Back by popular demand, artist Fran White FRSA returns to the RSA for more workshops to practice the art of slow stitching 🪡

Slow stitching is Fran's response to the speed of modern life. The workshops encompass the skill of being present, alongside the restorative art of making by hand.

This meditative practice informs Fran's art, and the workshops demonstrate how slow stitching can be a powerful tool for reflection, wellbeing and cultural repair.

Thank you to everyone who secured a ticket for the recent workshop, we are extremely glad to announce that Fran is returning to RSA on 17 November for another slow stitching workshop.

Becoming Fran White - exhibition at

This exhibition showcases the work of Royal Society of Arts Fellow Fran White. Through this display, Fran regroups her painting, stitch and mixed-media works, exploring her evolving relationship with the self, landscape and memory. This show places the image of the tree at its centre, as an emblem continuously present in Fran’s works.

Becoming Fran White is showing at RSA House, London until 4 January 2027.

On Wednesday 16 September, join us for the opening of the new RSA Fellow’s Showcase in the Dr Cross Room, featuring a presentation of works by Fran White FRSA.

In this event, Fran White FRSA and Lesley Samms FRSA will discuss Fran’s artistic practice, reflecting particularly on textiles, mindfulness, and resilience. As part of the opening, there will be a relaxed collaborative slow stitching activity, open to all levels.

There will also be a Slow Stitching workshop on Tuesday 17th November, 11:30am-1:30pm to celebrate this exhibition.

Attendees will be invited to contribute to a collaborative artwork, by coming together in a mindful stitching exercise. All skill levels welcome, and material provided.

Sussex Art & Sculpture Trail - until September 19

Sculptor Jonathan Hateley opens his home, studio, barns and surrounding countryside for the inaugural Sussex Art & Sculpture Trail 2026, supported by Pure Arts Group.

Set in the beautiful rural landscape near Sedlescombe, the trail brings together more than 150 works of contemporary sculpture and visual art, displayed both outdoors across the grounds and inside Jonathan’s working studio and traditional barns.

The exhibition features an exceptional group of established and emerging artists, including Louisa Crispin, Ali Dempster, Alison Holt, Carole Bury, Ellie Drake-Lee, Liliana Dobbs, Mark Austin, Nicola Godden and many more.

Explore the sculpture trail at your own pace, discover artwork within a working artistic environment and experience the relationship between contemporary art, sculpture and the natural landscape.

The trail is open daily from 11am–5pm until 19 September, with two special late evenings on Saturday 5 and Saturday 12 September until 7pm. Visitors are invited to bring a picnic and enjoy the artwork and countryside into the evening.

Admission is free, with booking required for the late-night events.

We hope this helps to keep you relaxed until our Winter Art & Wellness Day, which is known for being extra special 🪾❄️ we will announce tickets as soon as possible.

Thank you to for showing us how to make our own deliciously pigmented paint, and thank you to Kirsti for the breathing meditation and Sarah for closing yet another perfect Art & Wellness day with a restorative sound bath.

"My work represents an opportunity to take pause in the beauty of nature and obtain a moment of solitude amongst the chaos of our world. It is in this presence of mind, this concentration, this frozen moment in time that I find the strongest dialogue with my canvas. I hope that through this escape, my works allow the viewer to step into a personal journey with the subject. "
