"My work represents an opportunity to take pause in the beauty of nature and obtain a moment of solitude amongst the chaos of our world. It is in this presence of mind, this concentration, this frozen moment in time that I find the strongest dialogue with my canvas. I hope that through this escape, my works allow the viewer to step into a personal journey with the subject. "

Beauport House Gallery is situated within Bannatyne Hotel and Spa Hastings.

The home of Pure Arts Group - the gallery hosts continuous exhibitions across the hotel for guests and visitors to enjoy.

Carolyn Macleod is Artist in Residence at until 14 July 2026.

Carolyn is a contemporary artist whose practice is rooted in a lifelong connection to making, inspired by the sewing and knitting traditions passed down through generations of women in her family.

Her love of materials evolved into a fine art practice after studying at UCA Farnham and continues to deepen through mentorship with Emily Ball and Nick Bodimeade. Working primarily with oil paint, Carolyn embraces an experimental, intuitive approach that blends techniques like pouring, stitching, scraping, and collage.

Her work explores themes of memory, emotion, and sensory experience - often drawing on influences from nature, family, literature, and art history-to create layered, expressive pieces that blur the boundaries of traditional fine art.

Liliana Dobbs FRSA is a UK-based artist focused on creating abstract expressionist paintings in oils. Having grown up in Madeira, a sub-tropical Portuguese island off the coast of Africa, Liliana always felt a profound bond with the natural world. The ocean's fierce beauty and the uplifting, healing power of nature deeply influence all her work.

The central focus of Liliana’s practice lies in capturing the emotional connections tied to specific times and places, and infusing this energy into her artwork. Her creative process revolves around unlocking these memories and creating invitations for others to explore their own daydreams
