The amount of talent among the 2026 West Lothian Film Festival finalists is scary. Join us for a special screening event showcasing an outstanding selection of films at The Jim Walker Partnership Centre in Bathgate.

All profits from the event will be donated to our charity partner, Breast Friends and Family, supporting people affected by breast cancer and their loved ones across the local community.

Join us for a West Lothian Film Festival special screening event in Bathgate.

On Saturday 3 October, enjoy a fantastic selection of films submitted to the 2026 West Lothian Film Festival, including short films, documentaries and the feature film Murder in the Highland Manor.

All profits from the event will be donated to Bathgate Community Council, helping it continue representing local people and supporting the community.

While we’ve been celebrating our finalists across each category, there’s one very special award still to come…

The Matt Farnham “Best of Festival” Award is the festival’s highest honours and is judged exclusively by Matt Farnham.

Unlike our other awards, every single film submitted to the West Lothian Film Festival is automatically considered, regardless of whether it received a finalist nomination in any other category.

That means if your film was submitted, you’re still in the running. It’s another opportunity to take home the festival’s most prestigious award, recognising a film that stands out above all others.

🏆 Who will join our previous winners and be crowned the 2026 Best of Festival?

🎬 WEST LOTHIAN FILM FESTIVAL 2026 – SPECIAL INTERNATIONAL AWARD OF MERIT FINALISTS 🎬

One of our most exciting and globally celebrated honours, the Special International Award of Merit has been warmly received across the last three festivals, bringing filmmakers from all over the world to West Lothian. We are proud and humbled to have introduced West Lothian to international creatives who may never have discovered us otherwise.

In previous years, we’ve had the privilege of celebrating remarkable winners. Last year we celebrated with Writer and Producer Dan Burns (Chicago, USA) who took home to the award with Come Out, Wherever You Are. Which, had more connection to West Lothian than they realised!

Emily Sandifer (Los Angeles, USA) brought Into the Valley in our inaugural winner at the Vue Cinema. Emily had previously taken films to the Sun Valley Film Festival, hollyShorts, Edinburgh Fringe and the Toronto Independent Film Festival and many other popular film festivals. She took home the award in the summer of 2024.

Now the question remains… who will take home this year’s award?

A celebration of emerging adult talent in filmmaking, the Best Young Person Film (18–26 Years) category recognises outstanding work from the next generation of creatives. To qualify, at least 80% of the cast and crew, including dailies must be aged between 18 and 26, highlighting truly youth-led production at a pivotal stage in a filmmaker’s journey.
