Before this hare ever reached my drawing board, there was a whole story behind the photograph. 🐇

I asked Wayne to share how he captured it, and I loved finding out just how much patience went into a moment that lasted only seconds.

There’s something special about knowing the story that happened before mine began.

The same hare. A different kind of patience.

Why a hare? 🐇

The more I looked into hares, the more interesting they became... And I loved the idea that behind an animal we recognise so easily, there was this whole other story waiting to be uncovered.

So this piece is about trying to capture a little of that wildness on paper.

And it's slowly starting to appear… ✏️

The hare has never been just a hare. 🌙

For centuries, they’ve slipped through folklore and culture; appearing beneath the moon, tangled up in tales of witchcraft, racing wildly through spring fields and earning that wonderfully strange phrase, “mad as a March hare.”

And now, one is beginning to emerge on my drawing board.

I draw moments...the second before something happens...the second after something has happened.

Then I let your imagination fill in the rest.

All those old British storybooks shaped the way I see the world. Every animal had somewhere to go. Every hedgerow held another story....and that's what I'm trying to recreate .

I'm still learning with every piece I make, but I think that's part of why I love graphite so much. Hundreds of hours later, I'm definitely a more patient person than when I started 🤍

People often see the finished drawing.

What they don't always see are the walks, the weekends away, the wildlife encounters and the quiet moments that shape it long before a pencil touches the paper.

They're just as much a part of the process.

This was one of those moments. 🦌
