Doors open 1-hour prior to show-start, so bring a picnic and spend an evening in the beautiful environs of the Holburne Museum gardens. Guests are invited to bring a picnic and relax on their own blanket or seating, or opt for the added ease of a pre-hired deck chair. As the sun sets, sit back and let the performance unfold in a setting that’s relaxed, atmospheric, and unforgettable, perfect for a laid-back summer evening.

Written by Liz Lochhead, this modern retelling weaves the three stories of Oedipus Rex, Oedipus at Colonna and Antigone into one gripping narrative.

Following the tragic House of Laius, from Oedipus’ fateful discovery to Antigone’s defiant stand, prophecy, power and passion collide, revealing the enduring cost of political hubris and human blindness.

Thebans is a modern retelling of these great epics presented as three short plays in one evening by a talented cast of actors in training from Bath Spa University.

Many of our students are taking part in SparkFest this year, some with their entire year group and others in one-person shows. SparkFest uses a fringe model, so it’s a fantastic opportunity for our students to understand what it will be like to take part in festivals once they graduate. Echo and Ink Theatre Company proudly presents DNA - a gripping dark comedy where a group of teenagers’ bullying spirals into apparent tragedy. In a panic, they cover their tracks and frame an innocent man under Phi’s chillingly calm leadership.... but as guilt and paranoia grow, friendships begin to fracture.

A house-warming party unravels into a whirlwind of secrets, shifting loyalties and unexpected confessions in this fast, funny and sharply observed modern comedy.

Join Bath Spa University’s talented cast of third-year BA Acting students, in collaboration with Theatre, Festival and Event Production students, for this award-winning contemporary Irish play, exposing what happens when friendships fracture, egos flare and every whispered confession risks igniting the whole evening.

Content: The play centres on some adult themes: infidelity, sexual desire, interpersonal conflict, and emotional betrayal.

Last week, the third-years put on some short work-in-progress scratch performances of what they’re currently preparing for . It was a chance to gain some feedback and test some areas in front of an invited audience. We’re really looking forward to seeing how all of these develop, well done all!✨

This term, our third-year students got the chance to put their screen acting skills to the test, working with professional filmmakers on their Mediated Project module. The actors rehearsed, performed and edited a scene of their choice, gaining experience in a professional screen acting setting. Here are a few photos from behind the scenes!

This afternoon, the third-year students had the opportunity to work with some brilliant industry professionals on camera work. The masterclass, led by workshopped the process of getting a scene up on its feet on location, mimicking the set-up they will be experiencing in a few weeks time when they film some short scenes.

Thanks to as filmmaker for being with us today, and to the actors, Catrin Stewart and Gruffudd Glyn for their expertise.
