A magnificent concert to close Bath Bachfest 2026 performed in a packed Bath Abbey. A big thank you to Harry Christophers and The Sixteen for a roof-raising end to this year's festival. We can't wait for next year!

Stephen Waarts' lunchtime recital was mesmerising from the start. He played the whole programme with such delicacy and colour, further demonstrating his virtuosity as a violinist. During his earlier performance of Handel's Violin Sonata in D Major with the Bachfest ensemble, "his purity of sound and shaping of the long phrases [was] immaculately realised" - Rhian Evans, The Guardian . A truly masterful set of performances from Stephen.

We say farewell and thank you to our fabulous Bath Bachfest ensemble. Their three concerts demonstrated virtuosity, colour and a true passion for baroque music. It was a pleasure to host these musicians and we look forward to keeping up with their careers and hopefully seeing them at future festivals. Thank you to Tim, Stephen, Noga, Xiaowen, Adrian, Sergio, Nicholas and Reggie.

The final concert in Bath Bachfest 2026 is world-renowned choir The Sixteen, conducted by Harry Christophers. Bach's dramatic portrayal of man's fight with the devil and a Lutheran mass featuring some of Bach's favourite cantatas will be complemented by sections of Gluck's masterpiece Orfeo, in an evening of beauty and drama. This concert with choir, period instrument ensemble and soloists will be a fitting conclusion to Bath Bachfest 2026.
The Sixteen will be performing on Saturday 21st February at Bath Abbey, 7.30pm-c.9.10pm. Tickets range from £17-£53.

Opening this year's Bath Bachfest is Solomon's Knot with the first stop on their tour Catching Lightning. This semi-staged performance celebrates the work of George Jeffreys (c.1610-1685) a fascinating yet often forgotten composer of passionate early English religious music. Organist to Charles I, Jeffreys was inspired by Italian madrigals, the style of which can be heard in his compositions.
They will be performing on Thursday 19th February at St Mary's Bathwick, 7pm-c.9.30pm. Tickets range from £17-£42.
Call the Box Office on 01225463362 and quote event code BF1 or head to our website https://bathbachfest.co.uk/whats-on/ to book.

Wiltshire Music Centre's next music documentary screening is the story of acclaimed pianist Alfred Brendel and the story of how he mentored a prodigal talent, dispute having vowed never to teach children. The film also features the only footage of Brendel performing during this farewell tour.

We're particularly delighted that Brendel's son, Adrian, himself a musician and now the Artistic Director of Bath Bachfest will be taking part in a Q and A following the film, along with the director Mark Kiddel. Come along early to have a drink while pianist Jenny Steward performs in the foyer bar for the full film club experience.
