I’ve followed Tess Atkinson for years, and what I’ve always loved about her interiors is that they never feel overly styled or too “Instagram”.

Her home feels authentic, full of pieces that tell a story. I especially admire her brilliant high-low approach to decorating: mixing investment pieces with clever practical decisions in a way that feels both aspirational and achievable.

What Happens to Art When Interior Designers Are Given Free Rein?

Last week I visited WOW!house at , and I think that’s what makes it so fun. It’s one of the rare opportunities to see a designer’s work without the input of a client…no compromises, no client input, just designers fully exploring their ideas.

Naturally, I spent most of the day looking specifically at the art, how it was hung, and styled within each space.

I kept noticing the same themes coming up: layering art over pattern, mixing mediums, using picture rails and chains, adding paintings over joinery, and treating art as part of the architecture of a room rather than an afterthought.

I’ve pulled together 5 of my biggest takeaways in this reel.

I’ve been travelling to Paris for over twenty years, and before every trip I add another handful of places to an already overflowing Google Map.

These days most visits revolve around sourcing paintings, which means I have to be fairly ruthless about what makes the final itinerary.

Over the last few years I’ve hung countless paintings, and through helping customers I know the same worries come up again and again.

What if I get it wrong?

This week’s collection is now online.

27 original vintage paintings arrived on the website yesterday, although a few found new homes before they made it online through studio visits and The Palette newsletter.

The collection includes pieces sourced across Sweden, France and Spain over the past few months, from colourful landscapes and still lifes to mid-century abstracts and smaller collector pieces.

Every painting is one of a kind and personally chosen by me. I spend a lot of time searching through European auctions, and dealers, so it’s always exciting to finally share the results. It’s a long process to get to this point!
