Pattern Inspiration | Audrey by PetiteKnit

Kayleigh currently has this on the needles and it's going to be so cute! She is using a strand of Julie Asselin Fino plus a strand of Townhouse Yarns Disco Stitches which is knitting up absolutely beautifully.

This is one of those classic tanks that is perfect for hot summer days and as a layer in the Autumn. I'm very tempted to cast one on myself...

Yarn in the colours sheep intended. πŸ‘

This is one of those yarns that stops you in your tracks the moment you pick it up.

The The Raw Wool Company 4ply is undyed, unspoilt and completely single-origin, spun from rare breed Wensleydale sheep raised by Juli and her son Anton on their farm in Cornwall.

The colourways aren't colours so much as places and moods:
🌫️ Shepherd's Silver - the fleece, almost as the sheep left it
☁️ A Cup Made of Pewter -soft and endlessly wearable
🌊 On a Dark & Stormy Night - brooding and beautiful
🌧️ Mevagissey Mizzle - that Cornish grey-green you only really understand if you've been there!
🌬️ Soft As Sea Mist - pale and airy

The lustre of Wensleydale longwool gives it a lovely stitch definition that makes it sing in Gansey-style knits, shawls, hats and mitts.

NEW PATTERN ALERT ⚠️

Midnight Mirage by Anne Ventzel is here! This brand new pattern was released last week and, having stalked her in Instagram eager for it's release, it's definitely a bit of us!

Designed using a mix of Isager Yarn Jensen, Trio 2 and Silk Mohair, this is an excellent mid weight tee for days like today when the summer weather isn't really sure what it wants to be.

There's plenty of colour combos to choose from to make this your own too...

Dear Mojo, Where Art Thou?

My knitting mojo seems to have left me. I can't tell you where it has gone or why but I pick up my project in the evening and just can't seem to get into it. I should have easily finished the sleeve on my Winter Albina on last week but I got to the ribbing, did a couple rows and just put it down, my head just wasn't it. Mojo is weird like that.

It's not at all that I didn't want to knit, or that I am not loving the project - the mojo just wasn't there. I also keep moving my project bag with the yarn I have together for the Grapes Tee by Anne Ventzel around the house. Because I want to start it, I want to knit it, I want to wear it and yet, the mojo just isn't there to do it.

I know that motivation actually follows on from doing a thing consistently and not the other way around but mojo is different, and I find it more specifically linked to creativity for me than to anything else. It could partly be the weather (the weekend was lovely but it's been pretty mixed lately...what am I supposed to wear?!)

Mojo always comes back and this evening I shall sit down and pick up that sleeve again and see if I can't just finish those 15 rounds because seriously, then the sleeves are done and it's nice to be done with the sleeves.

I know lots of people lose their knitting mojo from time to time and I'd be very curios to hear if there is anything you actively do to get it back? Any tips welcome - let me know in the comments πŸ‘‡

A Perfect Saturday Morning

Saturday morning on Walcot Street - here's what a good one looks like:

Start with coffee at Walcot House - take your time, you've earned it. Then a wander down the street: something interesting at Wolf Wine, something delicious at The Fine Cheese Co., and definitely a stop into Meticulous Ink to see our friend Athena (her shop is a joy).

Then Taylor's Bagels for lunch, because obviously.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that, you'll find us with the door open. Fresh stock on the shelves, a squish test waiting to happen, and a conversation that'll probably end with more yarn than you planned and absolutely no regrets. πŸ’›

That's a Saturday worth having. Come and find us on Walcot Street - we'd love to see you.

What does your perfect Saturday morning look like?

Have you found our Fresh Off the Needles page yet?

It's one of our favourite corners of the website. The idea is simple: every project you see there has been made by one of us, using yarn you'll find on our shelves. Each one tells you exactly what was used, how much, and links you straight to the yarn so you can cast on with confidence.

Sweaters, shawls, tees, vests, accessories - Carmen, Susan, Amanda, Vanessa and the team have been quietly building up a collection of real finished knits, with real notes on how they knit up, what they'd do differently, and why they loved (or had a complicated relationship with!) the finished result.

No polished editorial. Just honest, first-hand project notes from people who live and breathe this stuff.
It's the kind of inspiration that actually answers the question: "but how does it really knit up?"

"Where will your next stitch take you?"

That's the question our little A-frame has been asking passers-by on Walcot Street for a while now, and we never get tired of hearing the answers:

A shawl that became a wedding gift. A jumper knitted through a tough winter. A pair of socks that started a lifelong obsession.

Every project begins with a single stitch, and somehow they all find their way here first. So, where is YOUR next stitch taking you? Tell us in the comments πŸ‘‡

Day meets night. πŸŒ—

Two collections from Harrisville Designs, Inc., made from the same beautiful American Cormo wool and couldn't be more different.

Nightshades lives in the deep end. Forest. Navy. Charcoal. Shades that look almost solid until you look closer and catch the flecks and movement underneath.

Daylights is the answer to that. Soft blush. Pale sage. Quiet neutrals that carry just enough colour to stay interesting - never flat, never boring.

Same fibre. Same lofty woolen-spun structure. Just a completely different mood.

They're designed as companions, and honestly? They're stunning together.

Take 2! 🧢

Vanessa has knitted the Weekend Sweater by PetiteKnit before, and the second time around is always the best time around.

This version is a dream. She paired Julie Asselin Boucle Lucie with Isager Yarn Silk Mohair, and the resulting fabric is exactly what you want from a sweater like this - soft and light enough for a spring day, but cosy enough to layer under when the temperature drops.

A word of honesty though: if you're newer to knitting, boucle can be a tricky yarn to work with (it's not always easy to see your stitches clearly). Vanessa's verdict is that having the pattern under your belt first makes the whole thing so much more enjoyable. Something to bear in mind when you're planning your next project.
