Some schools don't allow piercings at all. Which can be a bit awkward when your child's brand-new piercing is only three weeks old, and September is approaching at speed.

Under 16s must attend with a parent or legal guardian, photographic ID is required.

But age is only the starting point. Anatomy, aftercare, school rules and whether the piercing can heal properly all matter too.

Sometimes the professional answer is “not yet”—and that’s a good thing.
