Ted Lewis Centre Fascinating Heritage Centre celebrating the art, life and times of Ted (Get Carter)Lewis, novelist, animator and jazz pianist

Ted Lewis came to Barton upon Humber, Lincolnshire, UK in 1945 and lived there off and on for most of his life. He was mentored for his literary and graphic work by the celebrated novelist and poet, Henry Treece. Ted studied at Hull College of Arts and Crafts from 1956 to 1960 graduating in graphic art. He played in Unity Jazz Band in Hull for several years as a talented pianist. Ted was Animation

Clean up Supervisor on Beatles' Yellow Submarine. He published his first novel about his years in Hull in 1964, All the Day Long and All Through the Night. His second novel started the same year was Jack's Return Home which was snapped up as a film before publication. Ted's third novel, Plender, is set in Hull. He then went on to write the prequel Jack Carter Trilogy and finished his writing career with GBH which has only recently been republished. Ted Lewis died prematurely at 42, like many of his contemporaries, suffering from alcohol related problems
