What a fab session! ✨️

We had an absolute blast today, playing lots of games before finally getting down to business with an acting exercise to get our facial expressions going. 😳😁🤢🫨 You really would have believed they were holding the world's stinkiest sock! 🫢

After that, we worked on the very first song from our show, Miracle. 😌 The boys were getting into their army voices, while the girls were getting ready to be a ballerina (if you know, you know! 😉) 💃👮‍♂️

🎭 Welcome to Miss Trunchbull 🫢

Today we spent the class stepping into the mean and mighty character of Miss Trunchbull 😡💪 We explored her attitude, voice, movement, and larger-than-life personality, and I have to say... everyone gave it their all and absolutely smashed it! 🌟 I am so proud of each and every one of you. ❤️

If your child loves Matilda or enjoys acting, singing, and performing, don't miss out! We're having so much fun bringing this show to life, and very soon we'll be handing out the parts! 😊✨ It's an exciting time to join us.

Time to put my money where my mouth is 💲

Over the past two weeks, we've been working through audition pieces that our characters would choose 😊 Everyone had performed theirs… except me! 😳

Can I just say, what you all brought was amazing, and I was so proud of every single one of you for getting up and performing for us. ❤️❤️ I think we were all stunned by Rhys's performance! 🫢 I'll pop that on our story. ☺️

So yesterday was my turn. ☺️ This song, As If We Never Said Goodbye, has a lot of meaning for me as I started this company. With the support of all of you, we made it happen. ❤️ So I had no choice but to choose it as my audition song. ✨️❤️

Hello all! 🫶

This post is probably a long time coming! 😊

If we haven't met yet, my name is Emily, and I'm the owner and director of Act Your Age Theatre Company. 🎭 It's so lovely to meet you all. 😊✨🫶

Why did I start these classes?

I've always wanted to be a drama teacher. From around the age of 11, I knew that was the career I wanted. As I got older, I realised that mainstream education wasn't quite the environment I wanted to create, so I decided to build something of my own—a theatre company that feels like a family. ❤️

What experience do you have in teaching?

I've been lucky enough to work with children in lots of different settings over the years. I first started by helping at my old primary school's after-school drama clubs.

During my degree, I studied Applied Drama, where I delivered workshops alongside my university group for the wonderful company Spark. I also published my first children's book and hosted a story evening for young readers.

After university, I joined a local drama company, where I spent four years assisting the director while also directing, choreographing and teaching children's classes. Alongside this, I work full-time in a nursery, which I absolutely love. ❤️

What experience do you have in performing?

Performing has been part of my life since I was six years old. (Apparently I knew the whole of The King and I by the age of seven! 😂)

Growing up, I performed with several theatre companies before studying Drama and Music at GCSE and Sixth Form. I then completed a BA (Hons) in Theatre and Drama before continuing my studies to gain a Master's degree in Theatre.

Since graduating, I've been fortunate to perform in a variety of exciting projects, including presenting for a documentary, producing my own theatre night, and returning to the stage with Billboard Productions this August. I'm also incredibly excited to be filming a new project in September. 🤫✨

Although I'm proud of my experience in both teaching and theatre, that's not the biggest reason I hope you'll choose Act Your Age.

The most important thing to me is creating a place where every child feels safe, valued and encouraged to be themselves. I'll celebrate every achievement with you, laugh through the mistakes, and always encourage you to be the very best version of yourself. My company isn't just about putting on shows—it's about building confidence, friendships and a community where everyone belongs. ❤️

This week, we worked on the very first scene of our show, Matilda, by stepping into the character of Mrs Wormwood. ☺️ Let's just say there were a lot of sassy kids in the space today! 🙌😊

Well, that was a shock!!! 🐔

It's not every day that you're teaching a lesson and a chicken decides to come and join in! 🫢🫢 What a laugh we all had! And yes, I did let them have a little play outside with the chickens. 🐔

Now the question is... how can we involve chickens in Matilda? 🤔😂

Aside from the chicken fiasco, we did make it to the chorus of When I Grow Up. ✨️ It sounded lovely! 🥰 I'm so proud of all your hard work.

WE HAVE CHARACTERS ✨️🎭

For the past two weeks, we have been working on character development ☺️. I think it's safe to say there are some very interesting characters 🤔: a seventy-year-old man who hates the youth of today, a yummy mummy, a 17-year-old artist, and a boss lady, just to name a few.

I wonder why they might all be in the same place 🤔. I guess you'll have to follow along to find out...

To create these characters, we used character profiling. It's a little boring at times, but we've done the hard work, so now we can have some fun with it ☺️🎭
