FILM SCREENING: a collection of 16mm artist short films by + post screening discussion with Hope.

19th September 2026 - 6:30pm doors - 7:00pm Films start - £3 tickets or pay what you can.

Hope Strickland is a British Jamaican artist filmmaker from Manchester. They were awarded the Aesthica Emerging Art Prize in 2023 and was shortlisted for the 2025 Jarman award. Their work continues to screen internationally at festivals including The New York Film Festival, BFI London Film Festival and Interational Film Festival Rotterdam.

The Sea House Music Venue inside the Nan Tait Centre will be the stage for a very special ‘Songwriters in the Round’ event for Barrow Music Week 2026.

Hosted by Graeme Park and Carly Dacre who will also perform as Pearl and the Piano - several Songwriters share the personal stories and inspirations behind their music before performing live!

Hope works with experimental and documentary based modes. Their work wrestles with the choices undertaken when we visualise racialised violence, attempting to ask how we might live in a world and relate to one another with more care whilst amongst and against systems of power and control.
