The Landmark Welcome Weekender kicks off today in Ilfracombe, with a whole load of great stuff happening in, on and around the theatre!

We'll also be there on Saturday - 19:00 on the Main Stage (although it may say Friday on some of the festival posters - ignore those) with our new performance 'Horseflies' - and we'd love you to come along and let us know what you think! (Especially as it's a little different to our previous work) So do join us as we take a hop, skip and a jump into a bizarre rural crime.

Best of all - tickets are super affordable! - One £10 wristband means you can watch any amount of shows over the weekend - and kids go free! It really is an amazing event, with so much to do.

We're especially excited by the new work being developed and supported alongside us, and are going to watch:

The Boy and the Fox - A new children's story - featuring a beautiful puppet, a charismatic clown and a journey through the wilderness! A collaboration of Jess May Cox and BackZeVore - Saturday @ 14:00

Hagridden - Meet the witches of fairy tales past befriending a runaway princess. A new show for the newly renamed Shamollack - Saturday @ 12:00

Retreating - Venture into Unexplored Places with twists, turns and tension (physical and narrative) at a combative yoga retreat - Sunday @ 19:30

The Last Witches of England - an historic drama, rooted deep in North Devon - be jury to an infamous ex*****on! Today at 16:30!

If you're about earlier on Saturday, we'll also be at (in) the Thumbelina Story Trail by Theatre Workhouse at 16:30 to track down the adventurous Thumbelina in an outdoor adventure.

Our journey to become Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport UK Town of Culture 2028 is underway and now we want to hear from YOU!

📝 Complete our Community Culture Survey and tell us what culture means to you and what you’d love to see in Ilfracombe in 2028.

🎨 Young people can share their ideas about careers, opportunities and how cultural events could support their future.

🏪 Businesses can tell us how culture and events impact them — and how they could get involved in 2028.

🙋‍♀️ Sign up to volunteer and be part of making 2028 happen.

🤝 If you’re part of a community group, organisation or venue, you can share your ideas about how you could support or be part of the programme.

THE NEXT 6 WEEKS ARE REALLY IMPORTANT!

We’re launching a huge programme of community engagement to make sure as many Ilfracombe voices as possible are heard.

Over the coming weeks we’ll be:
📍 Running pop-up engagement stands at the Soapbox Derby and Sea Ilfracombe
💬 Holding focus groups and 1:1 conversations with identified groups and individuals
📮 Sending postcard surveys to 6,000 Ilfracombe households through Royal Mail in September

And we’ve been working with local artists and venues to create Community Cultural Postboxes around Ilfracombe — so when your postcard arrives, you’ll be able to complete it and simply pop it into one of the special postboxes! 🎨📮

🚀 WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?

Once we’ve gathered your ideas, November will be all about bringing everything together — using what we’ve heard from the community to shape our proposed 2028 programme.

We’ll then develop the budget and write our full application, ready to submit by the end of November.

This bid is about Ilfracombe, and it needs to be shaped by Ilfracombe. ❤️
