🎭 SPRINGING FORWARD AT THE PEOPLE’S THEATRE 🎭
After years of disrepair, the Lamproom Theatre stage and workshop spaces had left its core infrastructure outdated; requiring long-overdue maintenance.
During our brief recess last Summer – and throughout the following several months – fundamental renovations have finally addressed critical safety hazards, including the removal of decades of clutter, the replacement of archaic systems and structural reinforcements to our lighting and sound rigging.
The installation of new motorised stage curtains has also revitalized the auditorium, bringing both an improvement in safety and a fresh, professional polish to every performance. Made of state-of-the-art, flame-retardant materials, they provide an essential safeguard and ensure the well-being of our audiences and performers alike. Beyond such critical safety upgrades, with their elegant drape and rich colour, the theatre’s new ‘tabs’ also offer a visually stunning frame for each show; creating a truly transformative theatrical experience. These revisions represent a proud investment in our beloved venue's longevity; incorporating modern, sustainable standards and accessible design.
Finally, our new recording booth enables professional in-house sound recording for productions throughout the year, chiefly our record-breaking pantomime.
Aside from profound thanks to our industrious, forward-thinking management and technical team, we must extend such gratitude to our dedicated band of volunteers – THE FRIENDS OF THE LAMPROOM – without whose support the stage upgrade project would never have been realized.
This vital investment in our artistic future has not only addressed maintenance concerns, but has also created a more robust and professional environment for countless upcoming productions at The People’s Theatre. Such strategic renewal ensures the Lamproom not only endures as Barnsley’s primary cultural anchor, but also thrives for future generations; blending its unique charms with the reliability and efficiency of 21st Century technology.
Rarely seen by patrons, this 'sneak peak' of our design and build workshop - the results from which will fill our stage with theatrical ingenuity from season to season - is now primed for its next, effective chapter.
Our ‘Spring Clean’ may have taken twelve months… but the results speak for themselves!
