This coming Friday Washington Whirligig are providing the Valentines toe tapping at Darfield Community Centre for Jazz at the Centre. The regular patter will without doubt be firmly on theme and as cheesy as possible! Come and have a relaxed and musically fun filled evening . . .See you there!

Happy New Year to you all,

This month it’s the Dearne Big Band and Singers led by Loraine Cawood. Friday 16th Jan, 8pm start, £7.50 on the door at Darfield Community Centre S73 9AL.

Myself and many others in the village (and more than one or two in full time music jobs) grew up and got our start in performing music through this band. The Dearne Big Band is the main fund raiser for the Barnsley Youth Jazz Association which provides a route for local kids and young adults to start playing an instrument and join a band where this opportunity isn’t available to them through other routes. None of the adults in the Big Band take a fee, ever. The money paid to the Dearne Big Band goes back into the jazz association.

So, by supporting the concert on 16 January you are supporting local kids to get into music. This music is of course swing and jazz in the hope that the music we all love and enjoy can continue into the future whilst giving the kids opportunity to learn an instrument and, as we did, some life skills along the way. That might sound a little like emotional bribery and to a degree it is; music (and the arts) are now so diluted and under-funded that it’s vital that other routes exist.

This coming Friday Washington Whirligig are providing the Christmas toe tapping at Darfield Community Centre for Jazz at the Centre. Don’t forget that there’ll be the mince pie challenge as well as the jazz so get your taste buds as well as your ears on standby!! See you there!

Well how on earth did we get to March? In the blink of an eye that’s how! But we are back to lighter nights which is always better.

Hopefully the extended day light will help you make the journey over to Darfield Community Centre this coming Friday (14th March) and take a trip back in time to the 1920’s for the last session of this concert season with The Roaring Twenties Jazz Band.

Dress up in twenties style if that’s your thing, if not, come along and enjoy tapping a foot or a finger.

As normal doors open at 7:30 with the band starting at 8pm. £7.50 plus raffle. There’s a fully stocked bar and also complementary tea and coffee to help those at the wheel of a charbang or a horseless carriage

💛💜Valentines Day approaches . . . what better way to show your other (or possible other) half how much you care about them!! Yes an evening of toe tapping "love" themed jazz is the top gift of Valentines Day 25. We'll be sending the first bunch of Roses at 8pm this coming Friday evening, they might arrive with their intended recipient a little bit late but it's the thought that counts!! Doors open at 7:30pm £7.50 entry + raffle. 💜💛

💛💜 Thank you to all those who continue to support these sessions. We all play a lot in other bands, at other clubs and the struggle to keep the clubs open and playing jazz from our corner of the genre is universal. So thank you again and please spread the word! 💜💛
