What were you doing in 1986?

Go on, indulge us. Were you dancing to electro beats, hoping for roller boots under the Christmas tree, or perhaps just a twinkle in your parents’ eyes?

1986 was the year Lowery Workstands began. PK was busy in the workshop bringing his idea to life. That September, Rosemary was stitching at the embroidery stand that would become a game changer for stitchers around the world.

Ben and Gemma were just toddlers, with no idea that 40 years later Ben would be making Lowery Workstands on the same farm as his grandfather, and Gemma would be adding a whole range of colour to them. 💛💜🩷💚🩵🧡💙❤️🤍🖤

The original Lowery Workstand turns 40 this year.

The design has changed very little since PK first made it. He was a resourceful farmer who wanted to create something for his talented wife, Rosemary, to allow her to stitch more comfortably and for longer periods of time.

What began as a gift for her birthday has grown into an international business, with Lowery Workstands now reaching stitchers around the world.

Today, PK and Rosemary’s grandson Ben and his wife Gemma run the business. The stands are still made on the same farm, using the same machines, with the same level of care and thought that went into PK’s original design.

Could you have one of the oldest Lowery Workstands? When did you buy yours?

That’s right.

This month marks 40 years since Lowery Workstands began.

It all started with a gift from a farmer to his wife.
Rosemary was a talented artist who would stitch for hours. One day, she asked her husband if he could make something to hold her frame, so she could stitch more comfortably.

PK, being the inventive and resourceful man he was, got to work in his workshop. After hours of sparks, bangs and prototypes, he produced the perfect gift for his wife.

Rosemary was delighted with the design and took it along to her stitching group. The teacher said it was the best stand she had ever seen and asked if PK would make one for her too.

Word quickly spread and, before long, the Lowery Workstand had become a fully-fledged business, shipping stands all around the world.

Today, the business is run by PK’s grandson, Ben, and his wife, Gemma. Every stand is still handcrafted on the same farm, in the very same workshop. The only difference is that they now come in a variety of colours!

So, from something that began as a gift from one man to his wife, we’re incredibly proud of what Lowery Workstands has become.

It really is the gift that keeps on giving.

The phrase we hear most often is “GAME CHANGER” and it makes us so happy every time we hear it. 🥰

There is no better endorsement than hearing from real customers who genuinely feel the benefits of their Lowery Workstand.

PK designed the first stand for his wife, Rosemary, 40 years ago, to help her stitch in greater comfort. Word quickly spread, and now stitchers around the world are able to stitch for longer and more comfortably. The fact that the original design is still going strong four decades later says a great deal about just how special it is.

Every Lowery Workstand is still handcrafted here in Lincolnshire, with the same purpose at its heart: to help people feel more comfortable while they do they thing they love.

Hearing what you have to say means the world to us and reminds us why we do what we do... not that it is ever far from our thoughts.
