It's Loneliness Awareness Week.
Through our work, we see every day how creativity can help deepen connections, strengthen emotional and social wellbeing, and foster a sense of belonging.
Loneliness affects people of all ages. In County Durham alone, around 22,000 adults aged 18β64 are socially isolated, while a further 19,000 people aged 65+ experience loneliness.
This year's theme, Giving Loneliness a Voice, feels particularly important. At Northern Heartlands, creating opportunities for people to share their experiences, connect with others and feel heard is woven throughout our work. We help to create welcoming spaces where people can build relationships, grow in confidence and feel part of something bigger than themselves. It all contributes to our vision of strong, connected and healthy communities where people are actively involved in shaping their own lives and the places around them.
This week, we're joining Marmalade Trust in encouraging conversations about loneliness and connection. Sometimes a simple conversation, shared experience or warm welcome can make all the difference. π
