It’s non-porous, super smooth and extremely biocompatible, meaning it’s also perfect for long-term wear! Plus it’s not magnetic or conductive, so is considered safe to wear for surgery or an MRI! As always, check with your doctor or surgeon for their requirements first🫶🏼

It’s also preferred and commonly used for easy stretching, cartilage punching and high gauge needle piercings, as it’s suitable for fresh piercings too! 🕺

Unfortunately, the vast majority of plastic (acrylic) jewellery is unfit for long-term wear
PMMA is the most commonly used synthetic polymer advertised as “acrylic” for ‘body jewelry’ and other purposes. Pure PMMA is used in surgeries due to its biocompatibility *however* that implant grade is very expensive to stock and difficult to source, so most manufacturers use cheap mixed plastics/low non-implant grade PMMA that is not suitable for wear/implant 😬
Plastic is also pliable and easily scratched, so it can be the perfect breeding ground for bacteria growth. Over time the plastic can slowly break down, causing irritation and absorption of potentially harmful chemicals into the body
Despite the myths, unfortunately plastic in oral piercings won’t save your mouth from gum erosion either! Anything tougher than the gum will wear it down from constant friction and contact, plastic included 😬
𝕀𝕤 𝕘𝕝𝕒𝕤𝕤 𝕚𝕟𝕕𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕣𝕦𝕔𝕥𝕚𝕓𝕝𝕖?
Although the glass jewellery I stock is crafted with care and safe for daily wear, it’s not indestructible and may need to be removed during some scenarios, such as playing contact sport 🏉
Always take care whilst showering, especially if you have a ceramic/porcelain floor. This is to avoid accidental breakage and/or injury should the jewellery fall out. You should never wear broken glass jewellery under any circumstances 🫶🏼
