This Saturday I’ll be taking part in Paint Garstang 2026! Situated along the canal capturing the view from the viaduct over the River Wyre🌿🌱

Last year was such a daunting first for me having sworn I’d never be able to finish a piece - let alone a landscape - in any sort of time restraints where people come come and view it when it might be vering off course. And certainly not one I’d be proud enough to exhibit. But lo and behold I had such a fun day, it felt amazing being a part of the event.

A year on, defiantly still not having landscapes as my forte, but I’m so excited to get cracking! Being able to let go, have fun and get messy with it! Such a contrast in nerves from last year. Really reviling in less perfection more doing!

Still choosing between charcoal and pastels, but a smudgey, nondescript image with lots of room for interpretation is on the cards 😆

So this might not be my best piece, but it’s great to be buzzing for the challenge!

Come along and say hi if you’re in the area, and feel free to offer any words of encouragement no matter what stage the drawing is at 😆

A little of what inspired the making “Recommended Reading” 📚

The beauty of literature is the multitude of genres, themes and plots. The importance of literature in formative critical thinking years is the exposure to different walks of life, difference of opinion, and integrity of information. If we cannot learn in an environment that encourages diverse perspectives in a safe manner, we create a perfect breeding ground for seeking out information in unreliable, inappropriate and blinkered methods.

Life Drawing 17/08/26 ✍🏻

A very fun session today! Trying out my Unison Colour pastels on a 40 minute profile really injected some vibrancy into the image. I loved balancing mark making, side strokes and finger blending while layering the colours!

Then back to my charcoal safe zone for a 30 and 20 minute sketch - still trying to focus on necessary lines to not overwork the image and be more intentional with my shading.

And of course finishing off with a couple of mucky hands 😁✋🏻

Thank you Tim NWengland Lifemodel for the fabulous poses 💫

Pallet + kit for the day 🎨🖌️

This pallet is at the perfect stage of “usefulness” of lots of small puddles of edge and accent colours - my ideal stage! Perfect for blending muted corners and also adding some vibrancy in unexpected areas. That orange and blue especially 🍊🦋📚

Life Drawing 27/07/26

All about that reclined composition ✍🏻

Still continuing trying to be more intensional with my lines instead of flooding the page in a dusty mark-making blur.

Defiantly lighter and focused on the quality of line instead of being a depiction of every single detail (which is just a lost cause and leaves me panicked I’ve got a very detailed leg and no face)

And thrilled this cool pose avoided the tiny head syndrome I suffer from!

Thanks for much Robin for your fabulous poses 💫

Life Drawing 11/05/26 ✍🏻

I loved experimenting with some shadows and mark-making with smaller fragments of charcoal sticks. I think this is the nicest foot I’ve ever drawn 😅

Thank you to the wonderful Ellie for her incredibly elegant poses ✨

Today’s Life Drawing ✍🏻

Newest obsession are these greyscale charcoals! 😍🖤Oh how fab to be able to have those stronger lines without loosing the light hitting the figure - particularly around the face so it doesn’t become a smeared, overcrowded blob🥴

It was a good day for joints! So happy with how my elbows, knees and shoulders turned out. Again, feeling so confident working with a range of tones to instead of solely pure black.

And tiptop it off: proportional heads! What a day🤩🥳

A wonderful first session with the lovely Maura - thank you for your beautiful poses!
