Another beach scene as I love to make them as much I love being there! What I wouldn’t do to have the chance to be going back to Seilebost this summer 🌊

It looks like Sandra is not a fan of my work, or the US it seems! Life is tough out there, I have an array of personal problems that I am going through right now. And I could look at Sandra’s comment and add it to my list of burdens. But I won’t let some stranger on the internet get the best of me. But the same can’t be said for everyone, we all have struggles we are going through, and if you choose to be cruel to others, you have no way of knowing how someone will feel upon reading your comments. So Sandra, or anyone else who thinks it’s ok to be horrible, just be kind, or keep your opinions to yourself 💙

This post is for the wool lovers and weavers out there! I spent some time at Ardnalanish Weavers on Mull today, and what an amazing place it is! Their focus is highlighting the beauty of natural, minimally processed wool. They hand dye their wool as people did for hundreds of years using woad, madder root and onion skins.
They also have a fully functional mill using antique looms to take make their own tweed, scarves, blankets etc.
I will definitely be back to visit, and if you come to Mull, I highly recommend you stop by also! 😍

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, but I feel I need to have a discussion around this and my work. I understand that as artists we are often inspired by others work, but increasingly, I have seen exact copies of my pictures online. And it appears I am not the only one, as I am using an image below from a fellow felt artist who is struggling with the same issue. And she has summed it up perfectly “Be inspired, but please don’t copy”
I have worked relentlessly for 10 years to get to the point I am at. I don’t think many will realise how hard I have worked. Everything I have created has been through trial and error and perseverance. Other than a 3 hour workshop, I am completely self taught. So I think that’s why I find the copying so disappointing. I didn’t take any short cuts to get to this stage. So when people copy my work, especially if they are going to onsell that work themselves, I wonder why wouldn’t you want to create something that is unique to you? Some people have been kind enough to credit me as the inspiration, but many have not. When I nicely asked one felter to at least name me as the original artist in a work that was clearly a copy of mine, instead of that person rectifying the post, they removed it altogether.
This post may upset some, I’m not sure how it will be received. But if you are looking at my creations as a reference, then all I ask is to ensure you attribute me as the original artist, or ask yourself how you can put your own take on it to make it original to you 🙏🏻
